...If their sibling died. Bethany got blight'd and I freaked out and reloaded all the way back to get the grey warden option. Does anyone know why they decided to write out your sibling after Act 1? I really liked Bethany, probably my favorite character both combat wise and dialogue/role wise and I felt no need to continue playing once I saw that she died my first time.

It should be noted that I'm only just starting act 2 now so if they actually describe the reason for writing out the sibling out along the way in the game then I'd rather it not be spoiled (I already know about their return in act 3) but man...I lost interest in the game just like that, now she writes bitter letters but I'd rather that than the other option

Yeap. Though I actually finished it before reloading.

Friend reloaded as soon as he heard Verrick's narration to Cassandra.

I usually do play all the way through no matter what decisions I make just to see what kind of repercussions they have but this one was just too much of an 'umph'

If I hadn't been spoiled on it in advance by reading the wiki, I definitely would have reloaded.

Yeah I beat it, got upset, wiki'd it, cursed the name Anders and lost an hour going back

on the plus side it was way easier the second time through

Nah, I decided to just grit my teeth and bear it. Carver died, and I was disappointed, but changing it now would feel too much like cheating.

There's always other playthroughs! :)

I knew I'd end up reloading after hearing what Varric said,
but I wanted to see how it turned out.

I'll probably let it play through on a 2nd playthrough but I couldn't do that to bethany on playthrough #1

Nope, I stuck to my guns and went regardless. I wanted to roleplay my Hawke as some emotionally-dependent headcase.

Poor Merrill.

I brought Carver, then reloaded and left him out, then re-reloaded and brought him, and finished the mission. When he died I was devastated. I reloaded.

Also because I had not seen Hawke slit his throat or anything, so I was pretty convinced he was going to come back as a ghoul or hurlock or what have you later in the story.

Actually debating if I want to do this or not after bringing Bethany on the expedition w/o Anders in party last night. I liked Bethany as well. I'm not sure I really want to replay the Ancient Rock Wraith fight again though (can you say PITA?).

What's the impact of leaving her at home vs. bringing Anders along to Grey Warden-ify her?

I wasn't worried about any comeback I just found it to be a bit much for both siblings to die. And from the few spoilers I've had the displeasure of accidentally scrolling through, family deaths tend to rack up.

@above: if you leave her at home she gets caught by templars and sent to the circle. She then assists you in Act 3 depending on what side you take in the conflict that takes place during it. If you bring anders then she becomes a grey warden and helps you anyways in act 3.

Honestly the rock wraith is pretty easy with anders group heal/ revive/ etc. . . it's not as much of a hassle to keep everyone alive during it, assuming your Hawke tanks, because otherwise good luck tanking with Bethany Varric and a rogue Hawke with health bars smaller than my fingernail.

I reloaded soon as I was able after finding out Bethany died.
Sadly she still ended up captured by Templar's.

I reloaded the minute Bethany said she wouldn't make it to the surface. Granted, Anders was with me so if I had stuck with it I would have discovered the GW option but I generally can't stand the GWs so...

You end up seeing them about the same amount whether or not they become a Grey Warden or go to the circle/templers maybe a bit more as a Warden iif finding Nathanial doesn't bug out.

OK, thanks.  Grey Warden seems like a better outcome to me.

My Hawke is a DW Rogue and I had Aveline tanking w/ Varric and Bethany on AoE/CC/Heals and the occasional single target DD.  The Rock Wraith fight wound up taking forever and I burned through 11 health and a couple of lyrium and stamina pots in the process.  Timing up the cooldowns for Bethany's heals and everyone's health potions seemed to be crucial.  I'd imagine it will be a lot easier throwing Anders into the mix.

I sure did. I didn't realize Anders had to be with you as I'd left him behind since he'd said he didn't like the Deep Roads. I went back and forced him to go. :) As much as Carver was a jerk to my mage, I couldn't let him die down there.

There are three options, actually. If you take them without Anders, they die. If you take them with Anders, they become Grey Wardens. If you don't take them at all, they {highlight text for spoilers} join the Circle (Bethany) or the Templars (Carver). Don't forget that one.

As far as making them happy, the best option for Carver is Grey Wardens. The best option for Bethany is to not take her at all. She seemed very content when that choice played out.

Yes I would have. Fortunately I listened to my mother and let her at home. At least there Leandra was right, for once.

I told myself I wouldn't load after making a "wrong" decision. I ended up losing half my team. Bethany, Isabela, Fenris and Sebastian.
