I never knew that they would die if I didn't bring Anders until after I made Carver a Grey Warden, I was so thankful I had him with me at the time.

I took Bethany and Anders to the deep roads without knowing what was going to happen. I almost wanted to reload when I heard Varric's grim foreshadowing - but I didn't. I don't regret it. I sort of like that she becomes a Grey Warden. I'm leaving her home in my new game just to see the difference in story.

To be honest, if she had died, I probably would have let myself reload to make everything just a smidgen less tragic. This game is tragedy overload for me.

I left Bethany home the first time, not knowing what would happen cause I felt bad for mother.

I let Carver die on my second playthrough though, because this is gonna be a tragic hawke who loses everything she can lose

Ya. Took 15 minutes once I dropped difficulty all the way down to casual for the sequence.

I left her in Kirkwall the first time and was royally pissed when the templars took her. So out of curiousity I reloaded and took her with me... needless to say I went back to the templars taking her.

I never reload on anything but I left Carver back home anyway. Aveline and Fenris just kick more butt than him.

Was glad when he sided with me against Meredith, really thought I was going to end up killing Carver in the end...

Nope, even when I Varric said had Hawke knew he would not have brought his sister down, I still kept on playing, even after Beths death I still kept on playing. It was sad but that's what a second pt is for.

What happens if Carver joins the Templars and you side with the Mage's? Same with Bethany joining the circle and you siding with Templars? Do you have to kill your sibling?

without spoiling it for you no you don't have to kill them.

It's ok I already beat the game. Sided with circle and Bathany was in the circle. So not really bothered about spoliers now.

I got Bethany killed the first time through. I had heard there she could join the Wardens and figured that they'd happen upon us as we were in the dark-roads and make her one of their ranks. I didn't realize that we needed Anders to suggest it and lead us there or some-such.

Nah. I was shocked when it happened and it destroyed my party tactics for 2 or 3 levels (Bethany was the cornerstone of the party, or so I thought), but I accepted it. I was sure something equally bad would happen if I didn't take her and I thought I made the 'right' decision from a RP perspective. Changing that in hindsight would have ruined it : she wanted to come, she knew the risks, I chose to ignore mother's warnings and in the end I had to bring the bad news and carry the guilt.

I liked Varric's reaction to it (poor little sunshine indeed) and how he helped focus Hawke's anger on Bartrand. That was also a good opportunity for a slight change of Hawke's personality towards a less compromising approach.

Yep when she died I was like no way not going to happen. Replayed the whole quest and left her at home... only to be just as pissed. She is my favorite mage character.

Tell me about it, I didn't expect the sibling to be written out so I was, honestly, careless with the abilities I was giving merill and anders as they leveled up but had Bethany decked out, probably would have taken that "champion of kirkwall" title. Took me a couple level ups now to get Anders and Merill back on track.

I quit, came to the boards in search of spoilers/a solution, found it, and then reloaded and replayed through and made her a Warden. I think it was the only time in the game that I actively sought out spoilers for a decision in the game. Ended up spoiling myself for a few other surprises, unfortunately, but I didn't care too much.

I'm guessing they get removed from the party because they didn't have the time or budget to have two alternate characters record audio for the entire game, which is a shame. It would have made replays more interesting to have a different character throughout depending on your class, rather than just Act 1.

I didn't bring Carver the first time (practical reasons. I wanted to take Fenris and having to 2h was a little too much for me) .
Then he joined the templars and I figured that meant that if I brought a sibling into the deeproads they'd die. I was proven right when I brought Bethany in the next playthrough.

I was wondering about that though. They made a big fuss about your family being there, only to write everyone out?
