Anyone else feel the templar specialization is bland?

I can see it being useful in some situations, but it just doesn't bring much to the table. In my opinion.

Cleanse seems to really only be useful against mages, that use barrier. I couldn't really tell during my first playthrough if many of the bosses/elite enemies used other buffs.

Silence appears it is nice to have, being able to cancel a rogues stealth/backstab is handy.

Magic resistance gaining 50% is handy.

Holy smite producing constant spirit damage is okay, the stun chance is good too, but it looks like the percentage is low for elite enemies. 50% for normal is fine.

Overall, the tree just doesn't seem like investing into, when you can go into pure damage trees and have a better chance at aoe carnage. I'm probably wrong though, would like to hear from folks who have used the templar tree effectively.

Honestly?

I find it fairly attractive compared to a lot of trees with overpriced sustainables as stepping stones to some halfway decent utility passives (I'm looking at you Defender Tree). Three high utility activatables and two utility passives at the end, upgrades, a little bland, but the tree is simple to pick up some utility. I'm very drawn to it now for Nightmare.

Well compare it to the other two. IMO Reaver is quite nice, love it. Berserk on the other hand has to much stam requirements for a war, therefor unless you are looking for the last passive talent which, granted , is cool, you should pass your way. Templar is quite nice in endgame when you face a lot of mages and spells even if you side with them.

This.

Berserker is simply to Stamina draining and mediocre in it's cost vs. point investment.  Reaver and Templar, on the other hand, have passives/abilities that're universially usefull.

Berserker's last talent is not that bad but requires to much investment. Templar has a bunch of nice talents. Reaver is awesome if you can spare the health and the first passive is a must have for warriors.

at endgame, staggering barrage and haste, and stacking adrenaline repeatedly, with a good few points pumped into willpower. (maybe leave it at around 23-26, and look for stam. gear for extra) you'll be pumping out more than enough damage to make up for the loss in strength, especially if you combine it with the Reaver tree. (sacrificial frenzy makes for some impressive gib geysers)

Templar isnt that bad, the only really good abilities are silence and annulment.

Berserker is underrated, its worth it for barrage alone IMO.
Im not a fan of Templar spec as a 2h warrior. If I was a S&S Hawke it would be good for a tank, but if I'm a damage dealer I would fathered a reaver/berseker combo.

The tree doesn't look all that appealing for just building my character. But for role-playing purposes I'm glad it made it over from DA1 instead of something like Defender or Spirit Warrior; even though Spirit Warrior would likely be far more useful.
