Bioware is going to have to give some answers soon on weather there is a canon story or not. I thought there wasn't but from the ending of DA2 it's pretty obvious that they were looking for The Hero of Ferelden or the Orlais Warden Commander BEFORE they went to look for The Champion as a last way out. Why mention The Warden at all if he/she doesn't mean anything anymore? Would be the most cruel bait and switch in the history of time.
I agree and I think many people (not all) thinks the same if you look at pools and threads. I think both will be involved in some way.
I think that Leliana and Cassandra who are members of the Seekers (a part of the chantry) only wants to find Hawke to get the answers they need, and I think they are mad at him.
Even if Hawke only wanted the best for his family and himself, he was a greedy man who did everything to be something even if he was nice to the people close to him. Hawke are the reason why the mages and the templars was starting a war in the first place. Thats why Hawke is one of the most important people in Thedas. his actions started all this and thats why he is remembered.
It's not impossible to see the Warden again since he helped the templars in DA:O when the circle was destroyed. I'll hope for that the Warden returns and that Hawke will involved somehow. But its time for the true hero to arise and kick some ass!
(I did like Hawke to but not as much as the Warden).
