Why do the Qunari accept converts?

What I got from Sten was that the Qunari believe that everyone has their place. A merchant should always be a merchant, and never aspire to be anything else because that is his place. So why does the Arishok accept converts into the Qun?

hose outside the Qun don't know their place and aren't really spiritually and philosophically whole. Ergo why the Qunari call foreigners "bas" meaning "thing". If you accept the Qun you find your place and thus start on the path to finding enlightenment.
In DA:O's codex it was mentioned that a significant number of Revaini and Elves in territories taken by the Qunari often convert to the Qun. Its noting new

On the other hand - why would anyone voluntarily convert to the Qun? oO

I think The Qun teaches that you can not attack unless for self defense.

I'd imagine that it appeals to those who lack direction in life, or dislike how they are treated by their parent societies. Case in point, look at how many elves joined the Qunari offensive during the second act of the game. Why would they throw in their lot with what is typically seen as an oppressive force if they did not believe that their lives could be made better as a result? The Qunari do not care about race, where you come from, or even who you were prior to conversion, all they care about is that you accept your designated roll in the Qun and work towards the betterment of their society. I can see why that would be appealing to some oppressed minorities - sans mages of course who typically fair much worse with the Qunari than with any other civilization in Thedas.Lithuasil wrote...
They do, because they need to replenish their ranks, at least if they're cut of from par vollen for too long.

And respect, both self and social.Darian Tylmare wrote...
Because in Qunari societies there are no things like beggars, homeless and people living in miserably poor conditions. For all those people, being evaluated to a "job" that promises them food and shelter is way better than keep on living like they did.
The Qun provides for the material and emotional needs of its adherents, at least as far as we've seen. It breaks down many social constructs, but provides others in their place.

This. For all the good there is in it, I'm curious to see how non-ethnic followers of the Qun are treated by the Qunari. What if the place of the Viddathari (sp?) is to be lowest on the caste system of the Qun? It might just be a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire.Dean_the_Young wrote...

This might provide some idea on non-Qunari Qun followers.
- Zevran: I understand that there are elves in the qunari lands, Sten.
- Sten: There are elves everywhere.
- Zevran: Hm. Yes. Well, I've heard that the qunari actually put the elves in charge? Over the humans? Is that true?
- Sten: Some of them.
- Zevran: Only some? Which ones are they?
- Sten: The ones who belong in charge. That is the way of the Qun.
- Zevran: How does this Qun determine who belongs in charge?
- Sten: The tamassrans evaluate everyone and place them where their talents merit.
- Zevran: But elves, in general, merit higher places than humans in qunari society?
- Sten: Some of them.
- Zevran: Back where we began. It's like talking to a water wheel.
I wonder if non-Qunari could ever assume leadership positions over Qunari. If it's as meritocratic as they say it is, in theory that should happen.

Yeah, they even collect swords of their fallen warriors. They waste dead bodies anyway. I wonder if they do not bury their dead and just leave it as is?
As for the sword, I thought The Sten said that the swords are tuned to their users and can not be used by others?

Which would be kind of stupid, because of the smell and disease that would cause.
I think they'd burn them. Burying them would be too much of a waste of time and effort. And a waste of land.
Or they can store them and use them as munition for cannons and catapults, to spread disease. though apparently they have more advanced biological weapons (it's actually pure genius. Selective poison gas that targets specific races).

Probably Qunari is a race that comes from other plane and have vastly different biochemistry as we are.

The Qunari don't just accept converts, they attempt to conquer lands and convert people to the Qun by force.

The Qunari are the nation that must be and they will order the world against the chaos that is rest of Thedas.
Qunari is not the name of the race that we primarily see in DA2 with the big horns. All races can be Qunari. Zevran even asks Sten about elven Qunari in Origins, he likes the idea of an elf being as important or more so than a human....he'd probably hate everything else about being a Qunari however.
They're an interesting side that I'm so glad we got to meet.

Qunari should have conquered Tevinter by now. They have cannons and dreadnaughts which means what can best them at sea? They have biological weapons. They have the recruitment power of the Qun (which since Tevinter is big on slavery would mean many Tevinter slaves would convert).
Think about it. The Qunari could conquer any nation just by sending out a vanguard of 20 or so men. They go to alienages and recruit an army of impressionable and oppressed elves/humans/dwarfs and then cause a riot and revolution inside the city's walls. While that's happening a qunari force could easily march on through and conquer any city and nation.
And idiot lordlings and arls would allow it! The Qunari are fearsome and strange, if they want to hang around with the filth of the alienages so be it!
A small group of Qunari at your door would be the Dragon Age equalivant of the Trojan Horse.
I WANT MORE QUNARI IN DA3!

I think followers are too straight forward as to resort to such underhanded tactics. Do they even have a branch or job for recruiters and uprisers?
