Why do the Qunari accept converts?

They have a caste that assigns roles within the Qun.

It's not as undermined as gene-gas. It's pretty straight forward: erode the defenses of the chaotic and depraved and strike.

I assume the Qun does not forbid tactics and stratagems.

Probably. But still I believe a Qunari strike would be more like canon fire and then hoardes after hoardes coming against the defender till there is no resistance left.

I think there's more planning to it. Look at how quickly they took the Viscount's Palace in Act 2. One of the NPCs even says something like "I wonder how long they've been planning this" or something.

I think there'd be tactics involved in a Qunari invasion, not just massive overwhelming force. But I really can't prove it since we've never seen the Qunari at war. The finale to Act 2 was more of a lashing out.

BUT we did see that Qunari can be stealthy since no one knew that Qunari had followed them into the Chantry.

Maybe part of the assigning roles deals with cunning and military brilliance. Martial might grows stale and fragile with old age but a cunning mind can stay sharp for decades before finally dulling.
