Wow, after skimming this thread, all I can say is that life is SO much easier when you're not a homophobe. QQ moar, bigots, QQ moar.
Straight Romances got screwed, no pun intended.

As a bisexual female. I
this game. SO MANY OPTIONS. Merril pretty much insisted I bed her.. she's adorable XD
When Isbela and Merril flirted with me I was flattered, not disgusted. If everyone just took it as a compliment the world would be a better place. Everyone needs love and ya never know who is interesterd unless you ask

So I'm not seeing how it's a great leap or inference to deduce both Anders and Isabella at least are cannonically bi-sexual.
I'm not saying they could be anything-- there are a few instances (Anders and Isabela, primarily) when their past might come up. I'll point out that, with Anders, he doesn't say "I am attracted only to men" or "I am attracted to both men and women". You could decide one way or the other... perhaps if someone says a member of the opposite sex or same sex is attractive, that's enough for you? But they simply don't say where they preference lies. My point is that their actions don't change, yet some people are deciding that their inference is enough to suggest the characters alter their preferences at the player's whim.
Even if they did, I'm not sure that would be a crime. Regardless, it's not the case.
Careful now. Gaiders bite.

Consider the cheesewheel. Ah!
You cut a wedge and take it home. Take a bite and know of it's wonders... but do you really? Every bite brings new wonders, nuances of taste and texture. How can we judge the wedge by a bite? How can we judge the wheel by a wedge?

I will admit, at first I HATED the idea of all being available to both. Then I did the adult thing and actually thought about it. Now I do not mind the idea. I think and ideal solution would be 2 straight, 2 bi, 2 gay, but that will never happen, so this is the best compromise we can have - with one caveat. I am OK with this as long as players can choose to have a straight romance in which both characters can be interpreted as straight (or for that matter a gay romance in which both can be interpreted as gay). I'll be honest and say I don't understand bisexuality, but if that is how someone identifies go nuts - it is your right. Therefore, I will also throw in that it is good to have a relationship in which both characters can be interpreted legitimately as bisexual. To me, Bioware has delivered on this.
Female LIs:
Isabela - always bisexual, cannot be played as straight or lesbian.
Merril - Responds to flirting from both, but does not mention previous partners - can be legitimately interpreted as straight, lesbian or bisexual depending on how you play
Male LIs:
Fenris - again, responds to flirting from both, but does not mention previous partners - can be played as straight, gay or bisexual.
Anders - mentions male and female partners if Hawke is male, mentions female partners only if Hawke is female. Anders cannot be played as gay, and can only be played as bisexual (or pansexual) if Hawke is male. If Hawke is female, he can be played as straight or bisexual.
In this way, all tastes are catered too. Those who don't mind (or prefer) a bisexual partner and are of either gender have Isabella, Merril, Fenris or Anders. Those who want a partner who is exclusively gay (male) relationship have Fenris. Those who want an esclusively lesbian partner have Merrill. And those who want an exclusively straight partner have Merril, Fenris or Anders.
I don't have a problem with companion sexuality changing based on how you play, because it doesn't have to. It is perfectly possible for you to decide all characters are bisexual. Nothing in the game contradicts this, and you have your definied sexualities. I like this way because everyone gets an option, and my Hawke gets to ride off into the sunset with her perfectly straight boyfriend.
