Now. We have a thread discussing the lovely and witty and funny comments made by NPCs and companions, so I figured I'd create an opposite one. Are there any comments or dialogues with characters in game which irk you?

For me, there are two.

We apparently have a Gorim 2.0 in Dragon Age 2, hiding behind the clever name of Xenon in the Black Emporium. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore BE (considering how I'm one of those people ready to start all over again if something like the angle of their characters' eyebrows is off), but honestly.

Everytime you enter the Emporium, there's Xenon ready to give completely random comments, which is great and all, and was interesting for the first visit or so, but considering how he only has about three comments to make, it gets bloody annoying after a while. The voice doesn't really help either. It's truly wonderfully voice acted, but it's way too thick for me to still be able to enjoy it after hearing it a couple of times. I can honestly picture my Hawke getting infuriated by it as well.

(Xenon: The tem--
Hawke: I WILL BREAK YOUR FACE IF YOU SPEAK ONE MORE WORD.)

Another thing is Carver. I get the whole rivalry thing, and am still admiring how he was written, but I reeeally wanted to throw something sharp at him when you encounter him in the Deep Roads during Nathaniel's quest. Not to mention when he gets abducted by Grace. Seriously? Hawke just dragged your ass to the Grey Wardens because she didn't want to lose you, then went on and saved your skin again when you got abducted by those Blood Mages, and all you have to comment on is standing in her friggin' shadow? How it was her fault that he's a Grey Warden now (instead of what, dying an agonizing death by the taint?)
Someone has yet to get out of puberty.

Anyone else having similar experiences with a companion, or a NPC?

Please bear in mind this is with the intent of being a 'light' thread, not a 'bashing' thread. While the above characters can indeed frustrate me, it doesn't mean I don't appreciate them.

Edit: Some wonderful typo's there.

Xenon definetly. He just never stops does he?

And maybe Isabella... I just can only take so many dirty jokes in a single sitting.

Well it's not a companion, but I hate when Anders is talking about grieving Karl and the romance option is "Can we just get back to the flirting now?" that made me cringe. Also, when Carver becomes a Templar and you say, "You are aware your brother is an apostate?" and he says something like, "See mother? I told you he'd only think of himself! Don't worry I won't turn you in. I actually know the value of family!" I wish I could have had an option to give him a swift punch to the jaw after that dialogue.

Definitely agree on Xenon!

Some of the Dalish. Being rude to Hawke aka the "dirty shemlen" was bad enough but the way they treated Merrill made me want to reach into my screen and slap them silly.

Ugh yes. It especially irks me when I walk /out/ and he says that. Rigged doorframe, not happy.

I couldn't stand Bodhan talking to me whenever I went into the estate. I also wanted to smack Sandal every time I finished enchanting something.

I don't know if this counts but when Meredith brought up my mom when I sided with the mages the first time. I was like 'OH HELLLL NAW'.

Oh, and those Sisters whenever I walked around the Docks. Always saying 'May Andraste guide you' or something like that.

Just remembered... Gamlen when you live with him and get a new letter. So often I felt like shoving my mail down his throat.

...okay, after hearing Fenris tell Merrill that he's sorry that the keeper died for someone like her, I deeply, deeply regret not handing that animal over to Danarius when I had the chance.

Image IPB How resigned Fenris becomes when you hand him over is just thrilling. You should definately reload and give it a try.

Anders, you know I love you. I will love you and defend you to the death every time. But really, was it the best time to be picking on Fenris during an obviously traumatic experience?

Anders: "Wait, your sister is a mage? You bloody hypocrite! You really are just jealous!"

Uh, no, Anders. First of all, Fenris didn't even know he had a sister until three years ago. Secondly, he's not jealous, he's angry at her for selling him out to a torturous slaver.

lol~ For all the love I have for him....I get annoyed at his constant whinning about mages freedom. I feel mean about saying it but sometimes I just want to scream at Anders...."I GET IT ALREADY...."

I also felt bad when Fenris and Anders treat Merrill really mean like that. T__T

Edit:
And making Carver a Grey Warden was the most satisfying thing that could happen for him.
"Still whinning about being on my shadow....go kill the damn darkspawn!!!"

I think I get annoyed when characters get repetive over their distress....lol :pinched:

Oh, I've seen it and it was incredible. The magister sent me such a courteous note, too. I just reloaded and defended him because I wanted my first playthrough to have everybody, even though I was playing an evil blood mage.

Anders in Act 3 when I spoke to Meredith after tracking down those three apostates. I was trying to be all diplomatic (which everyone translated into 'I support Meredith' apparently) and then Anders has to start ranting about mage rights.

I also did not appreciate Leandra blaming me for Bethany/Carver or Carver blaming me for Bethany. At least Bethany had more tact.

I cant belive that Im the first to say this but every time fenris speaks I want to shove that sword of his down his throat. He's such a debie downer all the time. He make me think of a depressed emo kid. "the terrible pain of the lyrium being etched into my skin" I half expect to see him cutting his own wrists with his sword every time I turn around.

Incredible indeed. And I rather like Fenris. Oh sadism. But that's why I didn't mind his comment to Merrill either hahah, the cruelty was just joy oh joy.

Both Anders and Fenris agreeing with each other that Merrill should have died when I killed the Keeper. Both were pretty vicious to her in that quest.
Then there were a few times when people brought up the subject of mother after she'd died in horrible ways. I think Meredith was one. I seem to remember yelling 'Oh no you didn't!' at the screen.

Oh and taking Fenris with me into the Fade. I seem to remember him trying to rip me a new one after that and I didn't help the situation.

Is that the same one who keeps kicking the wall?  That guy cracks me up.  I just picture a fully grown man pouting like a petulant child.

Guard: Please stop kicking that wall.
Noble: Who do you think you are, peasant?
Guard: The person who's going to throw you out if you kick that wall one more time.

Oh yeah, Meredith does. One of the few times I picked the aggressive option. I think Hawke's response is something like "Don't you dare bring my mother into this" in this gritted-teeth sort of tone. It was great.
