Totally agree. I thought I killed the right guy but I guess I didn't. I never talked to Mahren so I don't know who she is. But letting some guy kill that many women just so he could make a re-animated corpse of his dead fiancee was awful. They should have put all thier resources into that. The templars are to blame

Actually if you don't kill Gaspar Dupuis, and bring him with you to confront the killer, he may turn on you, and you get to kill em both :D

OMG its even better if you bring Varric!!!  I did that the last playthrough and laughed my ass off!!Image IPB

Oh and I blame nature (or the Maker) for making Leandra have the exact same face as Quentin's wife.

I blame Victor Frankenstein and Buffalo Bill. lol

But in game terms, the blame can be spread to almost anyone just as in RL. There were so many people the had opportunites to stop the madman, and yet none did. Whether it's the city guards for sitting back because of "lack of evidence" or the templars for being templars, the mages for delving into forbidden magics, or for Hawke not finiding the killer or pursuing further in Act 1. Blame can be pointed and attributed to a lot of people. That's why for most it's a very tragic moment.

Who does my character, Jade Hawke, blame? Himself. But then again, he's absolutely consumed by self-loathing anyway. The death of his mother hardly helped that at all.

Who do I, the player, blame? The individual killer who killed her. The guard and templars probably share some blame for being bad at their job.

Who do I blame? Quentin, Orsino, and the templars for not listening to one the few templars I actually liked.

Who did Hawke blame?.... actually, the same people. XD I think she saved a special rage for Orsino, though. Quentin is insane and the templars, while they could have followed up more, didn't have insider knowledge. It made killing Orsino much more fun. Jerk.

Orsino knew about the killer, he protected him.  When you side with templars you find this out.

He could of stopped it many years ago & never did.

Lucinda (my character) blamed herself and will always blame herself - it's an extension of the guilt she feels in Bethany's death and Carver joining the Templars because she was overshadowing him.

IMHO, though, I was too busy crying on my cat and laying on the couch in my depression at what was happening to MOMMY NOOO OMG MOOOOMMYYYYY. ;____; Seriously, that was ... depressing. I had to take a break from the game.

There was a check and balance of power between the viscount, the templars, the mages (to a degree, they ARE mages after all) and the chantry. This bull**** wouldn't have happened under Irving's watch, he was a much stronger force of will than Orsino was. He was a simpering coward. Meredith was possessed, but it sounds like she may have been a bit overzealous before. But that is easy to blame on the chantry, which swings over to Elthina, whom for all intensive purposes put out blazing fires with a small bucket. Then Dumar was so busy trying to wrangle with his converting son and the Qunari threat that he didn't do much either.

Too many people weren't pushing back when they needed to, then one too many pushed too hard, created a power vacuum and the Champion was born.

Too little too late though. The idol was out doing it's damage by then.

It's brought up in the mage ending but you never get to call him on it, it's like "Wait what about my mom's killer? Oh wait you're a flesh Golem now, lovely"

Hawke blames himself, I blame the dude who killed her.

Did Orisino actually know the killer was kidnapping and murdering women for his magical research? Unless I missed some note(which is entirely possible) it seemed Orisino only knew that the dude was experimenting on corpses.

This.  Never doubt the Hero of River Dane.  Quentin was obviously an Orlesian spy.

Quite clearly.

There isn't anyone to really blame though - tried fixing that in my own take on the story a bit, but as it is in the game, you can't do anything about it, Orsino probably didn't anticipate this, and if there was anyone remotely competent in the city guard or the templars, those wouldn't be led by Aveline and Meredith respectively.
Would have been a great place to put a decision in, along the lines of "hey hawke, your mother probably just took the scenic route, now look at this great offer I have here", so you're actually responsible for coming too late.

Unpopular choice - the Guards, since it was actually their job to stop the killer. The Templars sure, should've listened to their guy, but their job is to guard mages, not investigate killers. Sure, it turns out this killer was a mage, so they get some blame, but we didn't know that until near the end. The Guards knew that SOMEONE was killing women, and did nothing. Hawke blames herself, of course, but she's the last person who should be blamed - she's just a nosy person who asked some questions, it's not her job to go out catching serial killers.

Yes. . . because plot knowledge about a character should only come up if I decide to side against that character otherwise its bad writing. . .

Oh wait, you found out that Lady of the Forest = Witherfang in both the Elf and Warewolf routes. Guess Origins had no intersting choices either
