Blame the maker for creating the Orleasians. I think we've got it covered now.

I blame the people of Kirkwall.
They do not follow the Qun.
This would not have happened if they followed the Qun.
FOLLOW THE QUN!

I blame Kirkwall. They are all nutty freaks in that city. Talk about extremists, sheesh.

I don't know, mate. This scene played out for me much deeper and hurtful due to the senselessness of it all. Sometimes terrible things happen and we can't stop them from happening.
The fact that he was a mage and did those things made me understand more the fear of the general citizenry and the templars. But, because I was a mage, I knew that magic wasn't at fault. Cars kill people when wielded by drunks--should we ban cars? Children playing with electric sockets can die--should we ban electricity?
In the real world, there is no way to prevent horrible things from happening 100% of the time. That, to me, is what made that scene so powerful: sometimes bad things happen to good people for no reason.

I was pretty horrified the first time I played... yike zombie mom.
I was hoping there was a way to save her and so on my second play-through I had Gascard help me...

My Hawke blames himself for not having tracked and killed the guy before.
And now that self blame is surfacing through anger and brutally killing anyone who ticks him off.
