I've been comparing notes with a friend and we *may* have discovered a reason that save files are getting corrupted.  The save operation in the game is a background operation - meaning that you can continue to walk around, etc. while the save is happening (indicated by the spinning icon).

When this happens, the game disables the manual save.  But we think it's possible that that game does not disable the autosave.  Thus, if you do something to trigger an autosave at the same time a manual save is happening in the backround; the manual save is interrupted mid-write, thus leaving a corrupted file.

That seems sound. Have you tried to test that theory?

I have not been able to 100% verify this just yet.

It seems like a plausible source to the problem. Just about some time ago, this also happened to me, but it occured when I was leaving Arianna's house in the Elven Alienage after completing the Fade quest for her son. It might've been possibile that an autosave occured when I left her house after the loading screen finished loading, and notnsurprisingly, I also manually saved at the same timen (I always do this after a mission, just in case) without noticing the autosave icon. Pretty much of a coincidence.  Your suspiscions should be correct, as everything fit in.

Thankfully, my most recent uncorrupted save was a minute less play time, thanks to the nagging power of saving. Phew. Time to play some more DA 2. :D

This could very well be the issue. I've had no problems with corrupted saves, but I disabled autosave the moment I got the game, due to problems I had with the autosave in Origins. Thus, since autosave has not been active, it hasn't been corrupting my manual saves. I'm not sure how one could test this bug, but if anyone can confirm it, I'd be interested to know.

Just to state my experience; I turned off auto-save after just one or two checkpoints, and throughout a 60hr playthrough I didn't have any corrupted saves. I also saved A LOT, and on different files - so had the cause been multiple filesaves, repeated overwrites, or whatever, none of those condition corrupted my files.

Sorry to be a downer, I wish it were the case but when I died then tried to load my save it said damaged and it damaged all the saves of that character, so most likely no.
