I got the impression that Saemus (the DA spelling from the subtitles) was either totally gay for that particular Qunari or had a hetero mancrush. Probably a one-way thing either way, but boy was freaking and stressing out way too much for me not to wonder. I felt so bad for Saemus at the end. He's one of the NPCs I really, really wish I could've saved. ****ing Petrice. I hated her so much for that.

He was certainly very fond of him. To a point of crush, I'd say, if not more. Whether they've actually had physical sex is unknowable.
I do not think Qun objects to homosexuality per se, only when it interrupts someone's duties. And we haven't seen or heard anything about breeding being a duty, nor about forced matchmaking.

The female qunari concept art was quite interesting.  Although, no chance of seeing one on the mainland.  You can't be a woman and want to fight, it doesn't make any sense -Sten

I think so too. So, no, not sexual, but as soon as you interrogate Saemus about Ashaad, he says, "we were both seeking something. That was enough" and the intense grief he felt when Ashaad dies kind of made me think they were at the very least, romantically invested in each other.

I've played this game 4x through, but for the first time I get the dig by the female mercenary. I always wondered why Seamus "ran away" with that Qunari. It implies that Seamus and Ashaad were a "couple" since simple friends don't just "run off or away" together.

They were both searching for something- and maybe they found it in each other. If Seamus was a female and Ashaad was a human male, would there be any question? Their attraction was their mutual seeking of something more meaningful. Maybe they never had sex - but they were drawn together and seemed committed to some kind of relationship (i.e., Ashaad left the Qun/Qunari and his post, and Seamus abandoned his father and his future).

I think Seamus fell in love with Ashaad. I think Ashaad found beauty in his relationship with Seamus. I believe they sought to protect this relationship by running off together. I don't think Ashaad was using Seamus/vice versa.

It's quite beautiful, actually. Something more than just friendship.
