No spoilers here, but after I complete the quest that makes you put on the Guard Armor as a disguise... how do you take it off. I've played though a few more quests past that story line, and I still can get rid of it and wear my old armor.

Try using the console command runscript zz_economizer

There's a guide to it on http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Cheats

Talk to the chick that donned you the armor. She will give you the option of removing it. :)

Ahh ok, I'll have to track that lady down. I am getting tired of running around in guard armor. What worse is that my mage is being forced to wear it :(

I have the same problem, my characters still has the guard armour and the lady that gave me the armour is now in the mansion owned by the Arl. You don't have the option to speak to here anymore. And it does not auto-unequip like people are saying.

EDIT: Nevermind, searched around in the forum as far as I can see there is nothing you can do about it. To bad I realized this too late and saved...

I got this bug on my second play through... the script does work to unequip everything, but any armour you were wearing before hand is not in your inventory to re-equip. This is ridiculously game breaking, I dont have a save from before it as I use quick save extensively... the last full save I did was about 20 hours ago. This bug is retarded, if it weren't for the decade of entertainment you've given me bioware, I would be incredibly annoyed.

Just to add: it may have something to do with not revealing myself to the guard catching the... um... pleasure off the maid in the room before engaging the overpowered guards at the door...

Same problem. I used the script to unequip but previous armour is gone. :-(

Any chance of Bioware fixing this? I don't have any saved games before I used the disguise. It's really left a sour taste not sure I can be bothered to carry on playing having lost so much carefully accumulated equipment.

I wish Bioware would at least acknowledge this bug openly instead of being all "hush hush" about it... :-/

Now, I either have to use a saved game from 10 hours ago or use the console command and loose the armor sets I've collected.  <_<

Don't assume because Bio doesn't comment on every glitch in the game that they aren't aware of it, haven't been working on fixing it, or haven't already included it in the next patch (1.02, which is on its way; I'm not saying it is, just that you don't know what's included). Too, if there are glitches, be sure to report them to EA. This website isn't the best place to be reporting glitches, as they can become lost in the shuffle of posts, although mentioning them here can't hurt.

This post was first created 20 days ago, I was unaware of this bug until I came across the problem myself yesterday and did a search for it. Now, surely it would of been welcomed for Bioware to warn people, yes? Or at least released a mini-patch/hot fix.

There a probably many thousands of people playing this game right now walking around in tier 3 guard armor.

There is a thread here

in which a Bioware rep (first page) has stated

When you first enter the dungeon of the Arl of Denerim's estate you can use an area of effect spell on the guards on the opposite side of a door, doing this will prevent a dialog from triggering which would remove your disguise. If this is what has happened it seems like the fastest way to get your armour back would be to reload before this encounter and trigger the dialog. If this isn't what happened please let us know.

In my case however, all my saves were after I came back upstairs and there was no way to remove the disguise. I have posted a very lame half workaround that can get the chestpieces off of the other two party members who weren't thrown into jail with you in the other thread. It was the best I could do without going to console as others have posted to strip off the disguise armour.

OK, so I did try to contact support about this problem per your recommendation because obviously months of this being a problem is not long enough to solve the glitch.  My question was directly related to being stuck with guard armor.  Their response was that I can get Dragon Armor by using the key that was included in the game package.

Very useful.  Thanks for the suggestion. :(

I found that if you do the "Rescue" option, you don't have this problem. Hope this helps people that SAVE OFTEN.

If they did know about this problem, and if they were to be working on fixes, they'd be out by now.
BOTH my HD 3870 cards have been fried now for 2 months, still no word from BioWare on what they intend to do about that, even thou it's too late.

Bioware should really slap a sticker on each gamepackage saying.
"WARNING!!! This game could potentially BURN the memory on your graphics card!!"
and
"ALSO! The game is full of ***** bugs, that we are fully aware of, but never intend to fix, because enough people already bought it!!"

Just want everyone to know it is January 25, 2012 and there is still no fix. I just ran into this problem. Just lets me know how unreliable Bioware is in their products and will never be buying a product from them again. I have had way too many problems with this game and have had it for only a little over a month now. First it was not working on OSX Lion (Still doesn't actually). I had to partition my hard drive and install Snow Leopard on the new partition then the game and move my save over just to get the game to work again. EA, Bioware, Transgaming, and Apple all refused to fess up. Until I realized it had to be apples compatibility with Lion and the Intel graphics. Apple makes intel based computers that wont even work together right, how convenient. Now a glitch that gets rid of my armor I worked hard to find and will never be able to get back without losing over 40 hours of gameplay and go back to Orzammar. I have had enough with Bioware and will never buy another product from them again. I am absolutely disappointed and disgusted at how they run their business. Built on unreliability and a loss of trust from their customers. How many years has this problem been here? Obviously since the game came out.
