I found the following in regards to this exact same error with ME2. Try it and see if you have any luck?

Problem #9 : Cannot Install Mass Effect 2. Error message “Error: Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported. Line 1, Column 40 in inter XML settings.” during autorun
Solution #1 : Extract contents of english.rar to your Mass Effect 2 installation. (Found in Disk 2)
credits: Shadow328 for the DA disc conflicting with Mass Effect 2 installer fix
Solution #2 : If you have multiple drives, Eject the other disc ESPECIALLY IF IT’S A DRAGON AGE DISC!
credits: Inverness Moon via ME2 Forum for english.rar fix. nice catch there btw!

Apparenltly this has something to do with some archive programs not reading certain files correctly.

Yeah, I was kind of afraid of that. Sorry :S Have you tried looking in the DA2 demo technical support forum? Or did they close it already?

It sucks. 100% lack of tech support on that matter.
I had the same problem. Currently playing on my brother's computer.

It seems that the only way out is reinstall the OS.

I have 2 computers here, pretty similar specs, both Windows 7 Ultimate x64, 8gb of ram and ATI graphic card, similar applications, same updates from microsoft, same antivirus... On one works, on the other it doesn't... No matter what I do.

It appears to me that it could be extremely easy to patch and tech support is completely ignoring the problem.

its extremely retarded, from what i've been reading the problem can be easily fixed with XML relocations but i don't know too much about programming....just putting together towers :L

Greetings Xanodia,

Ive had the same issue, the only way i've been able to play is creating a new windows user admin account and doing a fresh reinstall of the game. Its a small hassle to have to switch users whenever I want to play a bioware game, but it is easier than doing a OS reinstall. Hopefully this works for you and hopefully EA/Bioware have this issue solved for SW:TOR.
