DAO was released two years ago and Loghain still sparks heated debates and I think he will for more years to come. So far the most heated debates I've seen have centered around Anders or Merrill. So my question is simple: who do you think will become the "new Loghain"? Who will people argue about for two years and the years afterward? Anders? Merrill? Both?

I would say I'm taking bets on who would "win" the title, but the "Who does Cloud love more?" debate still rages on to this day. Taking bets seems cruel ;)

I agree, but I'm wondering if Merrill might steal the "win". She's sneaky...

Wait, Loghain became an adjective? That's kind of sad.

Um..not really sure either deserve the title. Not to diminish either character but Loghain was Loghain. He had novels and backstory and wasn't possessed by a stupid sword to explain why he was disagreeable.

I'd rather just continue arguing about Loghain than give Janders any press time.

I'm betting on Anders. He killed innocent people in order to start a revolution in which more people were killed. Merrill killed her clan out of self defense.

Anders! Just look around the forum.
What he did is so morally ambigous that you can debatte for a long, long time over it.

The first World War?  It's the 8th minimum.  And technically there have been no world wars since no war has ever stretched to a continent beyond Thedas that we know of.

Anders is merely an extension of existing real world debates on the merits of terrorism.  Although, people do enjoy discussing whether he was right or wrong, so maybe he does take the prize.

Regardless, I'm going to say Flemeth.  Her motivations and origins are most open to speculation... or maybe even Sandal?  I think once we have a little more information, or when Flemeth's grand scheme is finally revealed, that's when she becomes the new Loghain.

And for the record, he loved Tifa.:P

Like I said, the majority of the heated debates I've seen were about Anders or Merrill. Merely wondering which one of them people think has the "staying power" of the Loghain debate.

And it's pretty easy to get around that. There's no getting around Anders starting a war--one that my Hawke worked his ass off to prevent, damn it.

He's such a naughty little brooding Angel*

*referance to the Dev comment about Anders adding a Buffy x Angel style romance to Bioware games

I would go with the "Anders is a terrorist" debatte or alternativily with the "Anders brought freedom" debatte to stick around. This are the two which can involve much ideology and are easy to press into real life.

Thedas is the only known continent of everyone there and therefore it would be seen as a world war to them.

Indeed.

Merrill became obsessed with a mirror. It probably would have been better if she'd never thought about it, never talked to the demon, and never learned blood magic.

Maybe.

I don't think the Dalish will survive on the path they're taking. Humans and qunari will continue to expand and take up more land. Their armies and nations will get bigger and stronger while the Dalish dwindle and there are fewer places for them to hide.

If they stand and fight, they die. If they continue to wander, they die.

I don't blame Merrill for delving into the elven past. The future sucks and she's probably wise enough to realize it. I think she's looking for a miracle. Something that can help the Dalish survive and prosper instead of plodding onto oblivion.

It's easy to see how horribly things turn out and say she was stupid for even trying.

However, we haven't seen the end.

It reminds me of the Anvil of the Void. Branka was a horrible person, but the result of her actions might be the salvation of the dwarves.

What Anders did was wrong. It was pretty horrible. But what if the war between the mages, templars, and chantry actually turns out to be a good thing?

What Merrill did was wrong. But it meant she met the Champion of Kirkwall. It gave her the type of power and experience most Firsts never get. What if in the coming chaos, she's able to find that miracle/opportunity and help her people?

In the long run, it's possible these horrible events lead to good things.

We haven't finished the story.

Both. They are responsable for 2 out of the 3 best quests in DA2 after all.

But at the end, prolly Anders, since the Chantry is much like real world church and people are sensitive to that subject.
