I asked this question myself a while ago and received no answer. There was once an explanation about why Mass Effect Fields were blue but it seems to have been retconned<_<. They are now, in lore, apparently invisible with a distinguishing heat-wavy like blur. The best answer I can give is that the Omega 4 Relay is red to distinguish it from other Relays as a gameplay device. The same could be said of the Collector's Biotics as to distinguish them as "evil" or "bad" which I think is really stupid. Since the Blue explanation was retconned<_< I suppose we will never know why the Mass Effect Fields relating to Reaper technology are red.
