Bethesda can release their usual crap full of bugs, 6 hour storyline and crappy combat and they'll still have nerds praising it to high heavens. Because DA2 was epic fail and made for console kids, this disgraceful game will take the RPG crown away from EA corrupted Bioware. It's saddening. Dragon Age: Origins demolished the competition and made JRPG weeaboos run for the hills. It was a classic for true gamers and hardcore PC fans. THE RPG of the 2000-2010. DA2 will be forgotten as soon as something new comes out and it can certainly forget about getting any awards. Bioware sold out.

Mass Effect 3 and The Witcher 2? Deus Ex 3? And those are just RPGs. If you're talking about overall Game of the Year, then you have to deal with Uncharted 3, Arkham City, The Last Guardian, Gears of Wars 3, and a whole bunch of others.

Undeserved...really? Have you seen the trailers? Anyway, ME3 hits this year, I don't think anyone's getting GOTY without a fight.

It probably isn't DA2, though, it kinda brought a sick, 3 legged chihuahua to a pitbull fight.

Like Bluecapsule6 mentioned, that's only if we're talking RPGs, there's supposed to be a new CoD out towards the end of the year and Battlefield 3 on top of the ones he listed.

It's still march....
But If I was going to bet which game will take the most GOTYs I would say Portal 2 since Valve said it's going to be Valve's best game ever.

I get the feeling that the OP is one of those people who's used to a BIG RED ARROW pointing them in the direction of their quest and thus cannot handle the awesomeness of an epic, open world. (see: Morrowind, Daggerfall) All's fine though, even if Skyrim wasn't around, there are plenty of other games that, at this stage, seem to blow Dragon Age 2 out of the water.

Mass Effect 3!!!!!!! Different development team, different goals, etc. Can't wait for ME3. Good thing Skyrim, L.A. Noire, Portal 2, Arkham City, etc. will keep me busy. I have a feeling some of these GOTY-ish game will get delayed for different reasons.

Morrowind was anything but epic. You only needed a couple of hours to realize that the game is pointless and goes nowhere. It was a bunch of recycled landscapes, same monsters, uninspired NPCs and pointless quests. The game was horrid and still got a lot of praise. It's mindboggling. And now thanks to Bioware's screw up, Skyrim (another abomination) will easily win GOTY or at least RPG of the year.

I'm rather hoping it does get GOTY, i love Elderscrolls. Although Skyrim will most likely be criticised to death, just like DA2, as that seems to be a ongoing trend these days. But as many great rpgs seem to going the road of the console gamer its probably not surprising.

Pretty sure the bugs are half the fun and I've always logged way more hours in a Bethesda title.

Morrowind was quite epic. You could go anywhere, do anything, be whatever class you wanted. There was a solid  main questline, but you weren't restricted to following it and could just do one of the hundreds of side quests littered aobut. The setting was unique and alien, just as described, and the enviroments managed to capture that foreign feel perfectly. The addition of a toolset increased the game's life by at least a couple of years (mods are made to this day).

See? Opinions just like yours. It's fine if you don't like something, but don't spew your crap like it's some universal truth. Something about different strokes and different folks, eh?

(At leat I agree with you that Dragon Age 2 was quite subpar)

The Witcher 2 looks to be the front runner for goty so far.

Hey, Morrowind wasn't that bad. The lore was quite interesting, and if you think of the game as a vehicle for exploring the lore it's OK.

Sure, the combat and levelling systems are hopelessly broken, but if you do the sensible thing and exploit the hell out of the game it isn't that painful.

Doubt it. I agree that, strictly speaking, it has the potential to be GOTY...but meh, I dunno. They just don't have some huge company behind them. As with the first, it will probably receive worse reviews(nobody to bribe the "journalists")  than it deserves and it won't get propelled upwards by legions of fanboys.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to see it up there, it's a very deserving title, but my skeptical part tells me that won't happen.

The trailers for DA2 looked awsome, oops
Though I for one am looking forward to Skyrim, while I truly enjoyed DA:O it will be nice to get back to an open world.

I'd say Uncharted 3 and Mass Effect 3 are the early front runners, since they are sequel of well loved past GOTY winners. I'm personally hoping Arkham City will be the sequel that AA deserves.

If Witcher 2 is anything like the first one - it can forget about GOTY. Hell, it can forget about any award.

There are a lot of impressive titles coming out this year, many of them in the RPG category alone. I'd be a huge fan of the Elder scrolls series if combat wasn't so ****ing boring. At the moment I am most looking forward to The Witcher 2 and Mass Effect 3, crossing my fingers Bioware doesn't rush that out too.

The Witcher won the following:

Gamespot 2007 RPG of the year (reader's choice)
Gamespy 2007 PC RPG of the year
IGN best RPG of 2007
PC Gamer 2007 RPG of the year

If The Witcher 2 improves on the greatness of The Witcher I'm pretty certain it will win quite a few awards.  OK it will not win GOTY because it does not have huge publisher backing, but I do expect it to win RPG of the year in many publications.

I think it will be a well deserved win for Skyrim if it's anything like what they are saying. It plans to go in the direction of it's roots(Morrowind) much like Dragon Age origins did(Baldurs Gate). Too sad for DA2, abandoned its roots.
