They might still redeem themselves if they release an awesome expansion.

Doubt it. I agree that, strictly speaking, it has the potential to be GOTY...but meh, I dunno. They just don't have some huge company behind them.

DA2 had a huge company behind it, and look what happened to it.

Well if the expansion is free maybe (let s be dreamy ok, utopic even), otherwise, they can just sit on it and keep not breathing. I will just drop by to throw the body out along with the trash.

Meanwhile, yeah, too many other big titles coming:
DX:HR
Skyrim
Witcher 2
ME3 (hopefully...)

In any case,DA2 has zero chance to go for GOTY.

How many AAA games are coming out this year? Portal 2, Mass Effect 3, Arkham City, Elder Scrolls 5, and Modern Warfare 3. It'll be a close call, though I doubt MW3 will make it, unless there are some drastic formula changes to it.

At this point even winning RPG of the year looks bleak. You see so many loyal fans turn away from Bioware as of late because of their new, radical approach to RPG design focused on mainstream console public. Bethesda is smarter, I'll give them credit, all they do is recycle same old crap and their pathetic fanboy legion praises them for it. They had a gem with DA2 and a chance to cement their legend as best RPG company on the planet. They blew it, sadly.

ME3 will win most of the awards me thinks.

GOTY is to gamers what the oscars are to movie buffs, totally pointless.
they are bought awards that mean absolutley nothing to the gamer.

all you should really care about is if these games will be good and make you happy as a gamer.

Don't take things out of context, read the sentence after that, I'm not even commenting on the GAME itself. The sad truth is that no matter how good or poor a game you have, that won't really matter as the big players (EA, Activision, etc.) have got most of the gaming magazines in their pockets. As part of their "marketing" campaigns.

More lonely PC death rattlings. Just curl up to your mouse and keep repeating to yourself, "I have a kickass power supply, I have a kickass power supply."

If you only play Bethesda games for the story then save your money. The point is they give you a world to explore not so much the main plot.

If it does not slip.. In light of what happened to DA2 I think Bioware are going to be extra careful with ME3.

You think EA will let them? Seriously?  They'd force it out the door wireframe.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think they will force them to put out another DA2. Unless they are done with Bioware and really don't care.

There are so many good games coming out this year that I simply cannot wait for. I never played the first Witcher, but I've heard it's quite a good RPG. I'm not sure it'll have as much general appeal amongst such a strong field of titles though. Myself... I'm freaking out about Portal 2 right now. A month and two days til I get to give GLaDOS a biiiiig hug :3

Of course all of this relies on the very heavy assumption that Skyrim will release as scheduled, and not pushed back a month or so til the next year. And that it wont be equally as 'console-ized.'

My advice is to support any indie company you come across that has a game you find interesting, because honestly only they will bring change to a dismall world the current gaming market is in.

Skyrium looks good, but my money is on Witcher 2 as GOTY.

As good as the Witcher 2 is, that won't happen.

Personally I don't think ES5 wil take GOTY and that has nothing to do with DA2, but then I'm biased as ES4 never pulled me in with its sandboxyness.

Kind of surprising so as I really really enjoyed Fallout 3 and its atmosphere, so not a game with replay value to me. However I spend countless hours in there exploring every last bit of it and most of all .. I had tons and tons of fun while doing it. Maybe because the background setting appeals more to me. Just in a way inline with ME3 and Deus Ex:HR ... always some form of futuristic setting.

My money is on DeusEx:HR overall so, regardless how how much I like or not like ME1 and ME2. But I guess I'm biased towards these two franchises :D.

So some new and newly re-freshing game as GOTY compared to established franchises would be something re-freshing as well :D. But I guess established franchises always attracte large crowds as long as it isn't screwed up.

RPG of the year, maybe. It's really between Skyrim and the Witcher for that one. ME3 might get it too, only if BioWare hasn't screwed that up like DA2.
