Pretty sure there are enough lists that all the top contenders will have the option of releasing GOTY editions. ;-)

I'll be extremely surprised if my personal GOTY isn't Skyrim, but different folks favor different styles of RPGs and it's pretty futile to argue that "what I enjoy most" equates with "best" with someone looking for a different type of game.

Depends, I think Bethesda usually pull out a rabbit out of their arse when a new Game is coming out, this will more than likely lead to a new fallout game using the same engine, and like Oblivion, it'll end up being a big influence.

PC has never had special attention, PC games have just been developed for PC historically in the same way as console games have been developed for console.

These days you guys want a cheap 5 year old bit of kit to play the same quality products as a PC will....this leads to poor and rushed ports of games going from one platform to the other. Or it results in grown up games being finished off with crayons and tissue paper just so they will run on said old hardware.

If you knew anything about this subject at all you would know this already...instead you insert generic flame to hide your ignorance. On second thoughts, you stick with your console....it suits you

..honestly, the PC versus console malarkey is turnign into Sega versus Nintendo... only without the charm of a nostalgia filter or the lack of an internet to speak of in those days to keep all this obnoxiousness localised.

So, the game was changed dramatically to "make it work for consoles" .. and.. that.. "stifles innovation?" You're complaining about innovation stiflign innovation? And no one sees this as redundant? As a sidenote? Not all console gamers exclusively play or even greatly enjoy shooters, and consoles as a valid gaming rig evolved not too long after the first real PC games, so the elitist angle? Tiring and makes one look less respectable.

And on the other side? PC gaming dying seems a touch unlikely. There will always be genres that just simply work better with the ol' mouse and keys. And lest you get too high and mighty? THere's a reason console multiplayr, shotoers especially, gets tiresome fast -- lot of idiots.

Lot of idiots in both camps really, Ye gods. Just be gamers and agree to disagree and acknowledge that since you won't ever agree on a point to just *drop* the gorram discussion and talk about something else you can be civil, mature adults about. Or ignore each other and don't talk at all.

I digress...

As far as GotY goes.. well, I could forgive Oblivion and actually maybe finish it if every face wasn't a horrorshow (seems fixed) and it didn't reuse perhaps four voice actors for every non-plot crucial NPC. Talk about smashing your suspension of disbelief to bits, and the level-up system was just bloody stupid and counter-intuitive. That said, I'm optimistic for Skyrim -- but equally, ME3 (and save your hateboy act) is a pretty big dang gorilla to deal with and its going to be an excessively big year.

I do, sadly, doubt, a PC-only title fro ma small-time publisher is going to get Game of the Year. Does that mean it may not end up *deserving* to? Not in the slightest, but reality is reality there, more's the pity at times.

What’s sad is the number of people who dismissed Deus Ex after playing a couple of hours, and you can see why. First the game unfairly drops you in the thick of it, and then you move on to what is essentially the sewer level.

A small correction: PS3 runs on GF7 architercture, xbox has a graphics card similar to ati X1900.

Skyrim will do well because of a new graphics engine, improved combat system with perks and such. They are releasing a mod tool set with it as well, Bethesda has the best mod community ever bar none. Unlimited re-playability. very long main quest.

If done right I think Skyrim can be rpg of the year.

Didn’t play it, was put off by the old style. I love Eye of the Beholder, but that was then and this is now. Arx Fatalis is the game for me that successfully brought dungeon crawlers into the modern age, even if its puzzles approached the lunacy of point & click adventure games.

TC, you might not like Elder Scrolls game but you don't have to sh*t on them. Whatever your opinion of them may be they are beautiful games lasting much longer then anything Bioware has created. Bethesda puts lots of attention to detail and making the world believable (something Bioware has A LOT to learn from).

I get the feeling that the OP is one of those people who's used to a BIG RED ARROW pointing them in the direction of their quest and thus cannot handle the awesomeness of an epic, open world. (see: Morrowind, Daggerfall) All's fine though, even if Skyrim wasn't around, there are plenty of other games that, at this stage, seem to blow Dragon Age 2 out of the water.

Daggerfall had game killing bugs. Morrowind had terrible combat and poor dialogue. Oblivion had poor combat, a 4 hour story line and a BORING EMPTY world to explore. New Vegas and Fallout 3 were just as bad and Skyrim will also be just as bad. Skyrim will not get GOTY.

If any game is getting GOTY, it'll be ME3, it beat New Vegas last year for GOTY and who said DA2 wouldn't get GOTY anyway? "Professional" reviewers seemed to like it and there are many "normal" people who liked it too.

Skryim can give me a big world full of trees to explore but I'll take great story telling, great dialogue and memorable characters any day over Bethesda's garbage.

If you stop fanboying for just a single second you'd realize how boring and shallow Elder Scrolls/Fallout are. Oh yeah, I get to explore a bunch of terrain and do stuff that's totally irrelevant! Add crappy combat on top of it all, sprinkle with bugs and glitches and you have a great game! Whoever thought of these "sandbox" RPGs should be shot. It's like playing MMO without players.

BG2 had over 100 hours of gameplay. I seem to recall doing everything taking near the 200 hour mark. I've played alot of morrowind, oblivion and fallout 3, but compared to the multiple complete playthroughs of BG2, not even close.

As to believable worlds, etc, that is merely a matter of opinion. One I personally disagree with.
