So, this is going to be a bit console specific (yes, I know, poo for playing on console, let's just skip those responses please), but I am having some difficulty issues.  In DA:O, I played on Normal for the entire game, and it was pretty dang challenging.  In Awakening, I played on Hard, and it was a cakewalk.  In DA2, I find myself stuck between medium and hard.

The problem is that I find medium to be just stupidly easy.  Seriously, I could do nothing but mash X and I would win.  However, on hard, I get my arse handed to me in more fights than I can count (Revanent fights, the slave mage in Darktown, and even some normal enemy fights).  So I am wondering what the problem here is.

I think it may be that I am trying to play the game like I did DA:O, and this is a very different animal.  To succeed in DA2 on hard, do I have to live in the radial menu?  I like using tactics so that I can enjoy my character class during each playthrough, as it makes the game fresh and new again.  I don't mind issuing orders (lord knows I had to do it a lot in Origins), but do I have to basically issue every command when I bump it up to hard?

Is anyone else having this issue?  I want to succeed on hard, since I think if I can just get over the difficulty hump, it will make the game a LOT more satisfying.

Imo, party makeup and the skills you give them play a far bigger role in da2. The waves of enemies tend to sap a sub-standard group fairly easy. Rogue/mage/mage/warrior tends to work out fairly well for me. I tend to like Isabella more then the dwarf though. Ranged attack + waves spawning out of thin air ontop of you tends to limit his usefulness.

Also, some of the spells enemy mages use tend to be "I win" buttons if you stay in one spot. Or if your paying attention to them, just keep interrupting their spells. I found two mages with that stone fist spell can lock down most casters easily. Also it works fairly well against assassins.

Yeah, mages are even more annoying (didn't think it was possible) in this game than they were in the last game! They will cast a huge AoE damage spell, then go immune to damage, then come out of it (with another AoE damage spell) and do it again. So the trick is to nab them before they can go immune. And they can launch you 20 yards backward easily. They are tough customers to be sure.

Idk... I just feel like the difficulty was a little imbalanced in this game, thats all.
