So I would say that I have invested quite some time into the game without actually beating it. Bioware has a habit of attracting my attention so much with so many possibilities with character designs and character development that I have a habit of creating multiple characters to sate my imagination as I dive into the world they create.

I created a male rogue that was primarily used as a DW Shadow. I've invested 16 hours into him and he is currently level 15. He just entered Act 3 but I did so without picking up Fenris or Isabella, let alone doing many of the side quests such as the Bone Pit. I realized that without the Bone Pit, I lack the chain to get the Champion Chestpiece.

I created another rogue, this time female and this time she's wielding a bow. She currently has 7 hours invested and is level 11 (notice the difference between level / time ratio?) My intention was to make her romance Sebastian but she's been more of an... evil and cruel character so I have not been able to build up the friendship level. I'm in the process of reconsidering Fenris and I'm only at the start of Act 2.

I also have a mage that is currently level 7 with only 4 hours invested. She's a sweetheart who gets into it with her brother quite a bit. The motivation behind playing a mage is to feel more a part of the mage / templar conflict that I heard rumors about in Act 3.

Clearly I could just finish the game for the sake of finishing it, but I'd like the first playthrough to be special and accurate so I think the male rogue is out of question. I'm considering continuing with the female archer or mage or even starting a male warrior to romance the sexy Isabella.

What I would like to know was what your experiences were as a mage and how effective Dual Wield warriors are? 2handers seem beastly, but they attack so slow. I'd like to avoid blood magic on my mage and I was thinking of combining support with heals, offer minor damage and then CC via entropy and Force but I don't know how fun it is playing a support class oppose to a beastly dps class like a rogue. Quite frankly, I'm simply torn :(

oh trust me on my first playthrough i was a spirit mage/force/entropy and i had a lot of fun supporting my teammates with debuffs while also dealing out tons of damage with virulent bomb plus using pull of the abyss and gravatic ring and then comboing by using bomb on a disoriented target that are surrounded by other brittle targets that were cause by a cone of cold and then proceed to one shot kill him with a archers lance with varric = around over 50,000 damage totaled up from the carnage.

What did you specialize in first? Force or Spirit Healer? I'm actually in the process of distributing my points again on my mage and trying to figure out what to do that would be both enjoyable and rewarding. I'm currently level 7 with 8 points to distribute.

Finished my first play through today with a 2hander and it was a blast all the way through.

2 Handed - MAXED
Battlemaster - Bolster and Second Wind
Vanguard - Might
Warmonger - Pommel Strike and Taunt
Berserker - Berserk x2, Adrenaline, Barrage x2, and Deathblow
Reaver - Devour

Kept up Berserk and Might, Scythe through some enemies and when they circled me, I Whirlwind and Mighty Chop the elite, which would result in a 3 second battle usually. When that is not the case you can keep going with Barrage and Adrenaline, which makes your 2hander swing almost as fast as a Dual Wield rogue and that's with arced attacks hitting multiple enemies. See that rogue appear behind your healer? Taunt and Pummel Strike and bring that bugger to the tank. When the healer can't heal you in time and your potion is on CD, Devour for almost full (had roughly 375) health. Oh and when you run out of stamina you can use Second Wind and your back at full strength. Sadly Bolster is just a stepping stone for SW.

I ran with Aveline, Isabella, and Anders. I mean sure 2 Handed Warriors are not the best damage dealers on single targets as DW Rogues (as I have read), but for groups and even most boss battles they surely prove very useful. Spent roughly 39 hours and was only lvl 22 if that gives you an idea of the running around I did.  Also that was on Normal mode, trying Rogue on Hard mode and it's a pain!

Rogues at an early level can be painful, espacially on hard mode. I found it easier to start out as an archer and then once I got pass all the quests that get you your companions, I went to dual wield. It's debatable about which specialization pulls the most dps but I favor Shadow as dual wield. The amount you hit for with stealth / ambush is incredible and will take down nearly any elite. Plus you gain a lot of evasion through obscurity which provides you with a little more survivability. Though I will say that assassinate is a one hit wonder!

My second rogue is an archer and I'm loving it. I'm hitting for 200-300 a pop at level 11 and my assassinate crits for 1300 when Mark of Death and the other Mark are applied. It's incredible! Combine that with a mage's haste buff, plus the speed buff you have on your own and you're shooting hella fast. Also be sure to apply poisons to your bow since it offers either a better cc via snare or more damage via nature damage

Finished my first playthrough Sunday as a male mage. Primal focus, Force Mage/Spirit Healer. Good consistent damage with some CC and healing (I was playing on Normal). Gravitic Ring - Pull of the Abyss - Tempest was my main choice of attack for AoE while using Petrify and Stonefist on single targets.

If you go mage grab Force Mage first... and head for the +100 fortitude. Without that being a mage can be painful. Warriors are the easiest to get through the game with in general. Rogues are the best and bringing down bosses making the big boss fights considerably quicker.
