i baught mass effect on steam yesterday it installs i click play then it the launching game window comes up blue loading circle then nothing
i have tried all compatibility options and verified the integrety of the files and defraged it
anyone have any other ideas

What are your specs and what patch are you running? If you have yet to download the patch 1.02 then do so if it still does not work your hardware specs are the likely culprit. unpatched ME copies tend to have problems launching on windows 7 OS machines.

From Steam, it should already have come with the latest patch.
Hardware specs would be good. Assuming you do have an appropriate GPU, you might try updating video drivers. I'm not sure, though - if there's been a pattern to this particular problem I can't remember it.
