I played DA:O on nightmare and ME2 on insanity first time throuhg the games, or the hardest lvl you can do on first time play through. Been a long time since i played them for the first time and forget if there was difficutly unlocks or not.
Anyway i'm having very big issues with rogues really don't like this WoW style vanish infront of me while i fight you thing.
My question is to do with the quest to rescue the lords son from the quanari on the coast.
But whatever, I'm a 2h warrior which seriously seems weak to me compared to my DA:O run through. I'm wearing the blood armor stuff with some other higher armor pieces. Its myself and 3 mages in the team.
I can easily kill the female Winter fighter and her men but then there comes waves. I cleared the first lot took time but did it, wasn't hard. However, the next wave has a commander and an assassin. The assassin is just too much for me he keeps vanishing and backstabbing me for 1/2 my health.
Also is it just me or does taunt have problems? It seems that sometimes i taunt and the things still refuse to come at me even when i'm standing next to them so i can't be a range thing.
Any ideas how to do this and please don't post 'use easier settings' I already know that option exists.
Need Help with Tactics! (spoiler for quest)

Use an AOE where he goes invis, he will appear when it hits him

had a hard time already with hardmode tbh, props for u to try nightmare.
difference DA;O and DA2 is that in DA2, the idea is not 'tank everything and spam heal while u single target burn enemies' as in DA:O but more like 'kill them before they kill you'. The game wants u to effectively use the class combo's like brittle+warrior/rogue or staggered+mage/rogue. without this, nightmare feels pretty impossible.
have a feeling your taunt fails because its not a 'instantly transfer all threat to you'. it is only a temporary transfer of threat (like in wow) it does not reset aggro. So if your mage has been firing all his dps on him, taunt might not work to draw aggro effectively. another thing to consider, 'stun' does reset aggro on mobs after they get free again. So Taunt first, then Stun (like miasmic flask or so) will not work, mobs will just wander off afterwards. Other way around, stun first then taunt when they free, might be your best option and could actually solve the problem of peeling off mobs from your squishies.
i've seen some more discussion about the whole 'rogue on harder modes' issue. they are nasty. some ppl say use your back to wall , they will still stab but without the extra crit chance. others say, effectively CC rogues before u have the means to burn em down. glyph of paralyse/repulsion, barrier in time, petrify, etc.

problem with the aoe is that on nightmare it will hurt my character can't afford to be staggered by a fireball then be hit by the rogue.
Thanks Robberthooij i didn't know that was how it was working (i much prefered my unstopabble 2h warrior in DA:O that could tank) and what finally made me come here to ask the question was the assassin instanly moved it wasn't even just the vanish he vanished and within a second materialised behind me and 1 hit me. He didn't even have time to move in to position so i find it hard to even guess where they are on the battlefield if they seem to 'jump' around

I know I'm too late but in relation to the subject; maybe put in a tactic to taget nearest visible class "rogue" with your mages best spells near the top so they take priority. Mix them up so you get some disabling effects and damage?
