.....feels like the best early game combo you can possibly do.
On Nightmare it is pretty much a 1-shot on anything not an elite. The Stagger move (Bash or Pommel Strike) has a 10 sec CD where as Lightning has a 20 sec CD, so having 2 mages who can Chain Lightning and using it every time the on-demand Stagger is available is just amazing.
Has anybody else stumbled on something similarly powerful? I've been toying with trying out Walking Bomb and seeing if you can destroy an entire clump of melee enemies that way.
Pommel Strike or Shield Bash + Chain Lightning (upgraded)....

It's not a CCC, but rogues can set up insane damage with assassinate and warriors can do the same with vanguard and reaver talents.

Best very early combo (ie. post varic, pre-anders) I've found seems to be cone of cold+rain of arrows. Drops tons of basic enemies and weakens the stronger ones noticably. Also, obviously cone of cold+scythe tends to be an amazing room clearer if Fenris has all his sustained's on. Lastly I'd have to say Ander's vengance sustained+any of the massive area of effects (especially tempest since it can stun) tends to wreak insane havoc.

I'm a big fan of Stagger + Chain Lightning, but for staggering I prefer Fenris with Sunder, Lyrium Ghost, and Valiant Aura active on one of my mages. This staggers enemies every 4-5 swings without expending stamina and can easily stagger multiple enemies. If you want give him Pommel Strike for when you absolutely must stagger than enemy spellcaster or assassin.
I've also become a big disorient fan, this can be CCCed with Stonefist, Spirit Arrow, and Walking Bomb- you'll literally never be waiting for cooldowns. The sabotage tree is your best bet for inflicting Disorients but Disorienting Criticals from the Shadow tree also works quite nicely, and makes sense because Stonefist and Spirit Arrow are single target anyway.
I haven't played around with Brittle as much, WG and CoC are only 40% and 20% respectively to inflict Brittle which is a real turnoff.

But if you are already in the Primal tree, you can get 100% brittle chance from upgraded petrify. Sure it adds 20% damage resistance as well, but it seems to be a very reliable CC spell.

Drop a walking bomb on one of the targets beforehand for extra giggles. That will take care of anything left that didn't get the stagger on it.Gaidren wrote...

This is true and was a pretty bad omission on my part.
In my defense, the reason I forgot is that Petrify is single target and suffers from a fairly long cooldown, so I end up using Brittle-based CCCs far less often than Stagger or Disorient. Still though it's nice to throw in a Petrify + Mighty Blow to get rid of that annoying enemy mage or assassin. Of course, I don't have Annihilate yet... I imagine that will be fun.

Later in the game, upgraded Whirlwind and chain lightning does the same thing. It's pretty gnarly. The best part is, with a primal mage and a warrior you can easily turn around and petrify + mighty blow any stronger enemy (lt, elite, boss, etc) that survived.

My favorite is a bit later in the game, requires your Hawke to be a mage but it's phenomenal and never gets old. Pull of the Abyss centered on a point, move warrior in to Whirlwind stagger, Fist of the Maker to watch that +900% modifier do its thing and have body parts flying everywhere. It's awesome.
