Does anyone else have a problem when setting there video options to "Directx 11 (if available)." My video Card is a Nvidia GTX285 which Supports Directx10. I did some looking around and i saw that Directx 11 was installed on my PC. I really don't know how that happend seeing that my Vid Card cannot support x 11. So when I try to run DA2 on "Directx 11 (if available)" it can't even get into the game. I think DA2 thinks im running a directx 11 Video Card. So i have to set it on Directx 9 or else is won't start... Does anyone know what to do? Besides telling Bioware to make a Directx 10 Option?

There is no other option and I don't think Bioware will enable a DX10 in the game since most of the features from high graphic settings are DX11 features. I don't know if the high details texture pack uses DX11, if it doesn't you might want to try that one.

DX11 is installed with Windows 7 regardless of whether or not you have hardware that can use it. You'll still have DX9 installed as well, or else you wouldn't be able to run DX9 games (or DA2 in dx9 mode for that matter).
If the game crashes when you try to start it in DX11 mode but not in DX9 mode, then that basically means the game crashes when using the dx11 renderer.
You say you fear the game might be trying to run in DX11 when your card doesn't support it - as long as you put the settings to "enable DX11" and set the graphics level to "High" then it should only be using DX9 and DX10 features. You can also double check this by opening the INI file in Documents/Bioware/DA2/settings -> dragonage.ini -> make sure the lines for depth of field and blur are set to =0 and make sure graphicslevel is set to =2 (which is the same as the High setting in the config tool).
If those settings are set correctly, and the game still doesn't work, the only things I can suggest are uninstalling and then reinstalling the following:
- the game (including the dlc's and highrez pack)
- your graphics card drivers (make sure to uninstall and run a driver cleaning tool in safemode before reinstalling)
- directx 11 (don't know if you can force-reinstall dx11 as ive never needed to, but if its possible its worth trying)
Also if you're not running one of the latest sets of drivers, it's worth trying to upgrade to those, as people have had many positive experience with them, even with DX10 and it might improve your crashes. Especially if you're running somewhat older drivers right now (260 or earlier) those might be causing the crashes.
With the latest sets of drivers what I mean is either the version 267.24 beta drivers (nvidia site -> beta and archived drivers), or the version 267.59 WHQL drivers for 450 and 550 cards, which can be modified to work on other cards, including dx10 cards, as well.

As already noted elsewhere. There are also at least three hardware elements that all must be working correctly.Gorath Alpha wrote...
There are four graphical elements in software that must be cooperating with one another. Drivers are easiest to check, just R & R them, and retest, after that, try installing DirectX, retest. If necessary, uninstall the game, then reinstall and retest.
Last of all is to R & R PhysX, the least likely suspect. (R & R, if it's not universal any more, is Remove and Replace.)

yeah i have the same problem when i select dx 11--->
application stopped working
and i got newest drivers i got all windows updates platform and so on.
but da2 and civ5 keep crashing when i try running in dx 11 mode.
i have an 4870x2 grafic card it is 10.1 ready.
i even used cc cleaner prior installing new drivers.
and for civ5, it even tells me dx10/11 is reccomended since i updated windows to sp2
i use vista 64 bit. think my problem get solved when i switch to win7?
should i update bios? should i update motherboard drivers?
what else can i do? the game runs smooth in dx9 on very high ;> so i dont really care but it still bugs me.. somehow...
