I found all the upgrades for him and added runes against fire and cold, but after said quest his armour is not available, when I open the enchantment-thing in my house.
Not available = it's not there. All other armours are present and exactly like the should be.
Carric's crossbow is present and has now four rune slots. I guess, with the latest upgrade something went wrong. Without resistances Varric tends to be a one-hit-wonder in any fight with fire-AOE.
Anyone else has this problem?

PPS.:
Strange enough, when I started the game after I wrote this post, Varric's armour was there again, with three slots now.
