Are the heavy variants of Turian armor a leftover from an earlier armor design or were they scrapped later in development and just styled differently than light and medium? Obviously they had different plans for armor and classes originally, since Tali is the only character that doesn't have a full load out of armor styles and sizes.

Liara's medium armor is also strange (tried Colossus X), it changes the shape of her body, noticeably shrinking her hips (maybe it's also the case for Ashley, I'd check, but she's dead).

There is no turian heavy armor available in game. There doesn't even appear to be a command to add it via the command console.

Here is the list of available types from the pc cheats page on the wiki

Race-specific armor

* HumanL
* HumanM
* HumanH
* QuarianL
* TurianL
* TurianM
* KroganM
* KroganH
* qasuperarmor (treated as Human Light)

I only see human and krogan heavy on that list.

 If you use a glitch (quoted from the Mass Effect Wiki below) you can equip any armor variant on anyone. Here's what all Garrus' heavy armor variants look like, they look more like the style ME2 went with in my opinion:

Image IPB

This glitch results in equipping any armor you have on any character in the party, regardless of restrictions. In the equipment menu, on armor selection, find the armor you wish to equip (greyed out or not). Count from that armor down to the bottom of the list of armor. Press X to enter upgrade selection. Select any upgrade, and hit Y to convert to Omnigel, but almost simultaneously press and hold A, and don't release. Once the prompt to confirm conversion to Omnigel appears, release A and press B. The selection screen will appear different - as if selecting armor, but with upgrades in the selection list, and the Icons describing the selection will appear strange (1 icon, then 3 other repeating icons) if done correctly. Scroll to the bottom of the list of upgrades, then scroll up the number you previously counted down from armors. Equip the 'upgrade', and the armor you previously picked will be equipped instead.

Yes, but the picture you posted appears to be phantom light armor.

Heck the code for your picture even says it's phantom light armor.  There is no turian heavy armor in the game.  You're using a glitch to force human or krogan heavy onto a turian and the game probably defaults to a certain armor skin if it can't find a matching armor type.

So no turian heavy armor.

I know what I posted was Phantom light armor from the Wiki, but trust me, there is heavy armor for every variant, skinned appropriately, and they look just like that shot of Phantom armor. For example: Heavy Colossus or Predator armors look different from both light and medium variants on Garrus (retaining their unique styles, black/pink and green camo), where a light or medium human armor for example would look identical to its Turian counterpart on him.

I'm willing to bet a google search will not yield any pictures of turian heavy armor. Since the game has been out for 2 1/2 years surely someone would have posted pics by now. So unless you can come up with some images I'm chalking it up to space pixies.

I've also performed the glitch to equip heavy armor on Garrus, and I can personally tell you that Garrus does indeed have an unused heavy armor model, and depending on what type of heavy armor is glitched onto him, his heavy armor model has a proper texture for almost every armor that is equipped on him, unlike Tali, whose armor model doesn't change and only has textures for the quarian-specific armors that you can normally equip on her. I've only tested this on the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect, though, so I can't speak for the PC version of the game.

I'll be happy to take a few for you, but I'll warn you beforehand that they'll most likely be grainy due to me being forced to snap a few with my camera aimed at the TV. I should have a few for you to look at in about an hour, if that's all right.

Here's some pictures I uploaded to ImageShack that show Garrus in both his heavy armor and medium armor models, so you can see the difference between the heavy armor model and the medium armor model.

I apologize for the grainy quality of the images, but I was forced to take these screenshots off my TV screen since I only have the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect. They should be clear enough to show the difference between the two models, however. I hope these screenshots prove that Garrus does indeed have a heavy armor model
that is not normally available for use in gameplay except through the
use of the "equip any armor on any character" glitch.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the heavy armor I've equipped on Garrus is the human Predator H heavy armor and the medium armor is the turian Agent medium armor.

Didn't know there were two variants of his heavy armor. I didn't have a piece that had a sealed helmet.

The sealed helmet's the version that's used in hostile environments such as Eletania or Tuntau, similar to how Shepard's helmet has a sealed variant when standing outside of the Mako on those worlds.

Use that glitch to give Liara explorer med armor. Look familiar?
