this game deserves game of the year, but sadly.....

2. You can safely ignore the overall game of the year. Instead, watch what wins the categories of games that you like. Comparing DA:O to MW2 is just as silly as comparing a Diablo clone to a sports game. Comparing DA:O to the Witcher's latest release or Risen, though... that gets interesting.

I love this game but Uncharted 2 isn't exactly a generic shooter. It has the most visually intense graphics I've ever seen on a console and the story is incredible. The voice acting is also the best I've seen in any game.

all im saying is bioware gets no respect.
I don't know about that every preview I read about mass effect and dragon age, etc. Usually have nothing but praise and faith in Bioware.
IGN and Gamespot (IGN in particular) basically worship them as RPG gods.

Never forget that Jade empire is one of the most overrated game of all time, even receiving a 9.9 from IGN(it's a decent rpg,but should be nowhere 90 on metacritic when Planescape:torment is at 91).
If anything, critics usually forgive many things in a Bioware game.Mass effect received great score, despite the massive flaws(inventory system, awful sidequests, lack of content and mediocre shooting mechanics) and technical issues of the first game(elevators used to "mask" long loading time, tearing, texture being loaded 10 seconds after booting the game, etc).
That being said,my games of the year are:
Street fighter IV
Uncharted 2
Dragon age:origins
Demon's soul
Batman:arkham asylum
I also expect great things from:
Super Street fighter IV
Mass effect 2
The last guardian
Alpha protocol
Starcraft 2

I somewhat agree...I would like to see DA get the recognition it deserves, especially for all of the work put into the rather original (by fantasy standards) setting and lore. The last RPG I remember wherein a company successfully did some good creative work on a fantasy setting was...probably Morrowind (certainly not Oblivion...blech).
That said, I really couldn't care less about all of the Game of the Year nonsense. So, some silly magazine declares some game OMFGGameOfTehYearLOLOL111! So now the publisher releases a GOTY edition of their game so they can re-sell the same game again with some "free" DLC. It's all pretty meaningless if you ask me. It has more to do with marketing than recognition of high quality. *cough*thegrammys*cough*
I wouldn't go so far as to say "blech" to Oblivion, but it certainly was inferior to Morrowind, which is still one of my favorite cRPG's of all time. Morrowind was quite creative - the sense of being in a truly alien environment was truly overwhelming. DA:O is quite good, but still within the realm of traditional fantasy RPG's. By breaking away from the limitations of Dungeons and Dragons, they have made a better version of Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate.

I also agree with "marshalleck" that game is like food, well not exactly, but like Mc Donald and fancy resturant. Fast food, you eat it fast, you get it fast, but real food take time to prepare and enjoy. Am i right?

DUDE OKDADIO NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN SUCKED
it started really good though had a great story but the ending SUCKED there was no climax the cop got killed by a buncha random guys the money disipeared and tommy lee jones character didnt even fit in the story
but your right i was wrong bout the whole driving miss daisy thing i ment annie hall won the oscar of 1978 i confuse the 2 for some odd reason
and 300 was awsome cuz it was a true story was visully amazing and the acting for the characters was great. i will admit though its not as good as braveheart or Gladiator
You've got to be joking, right? I'm of course talking about your opinions on 300. Sure, it's "based" on a true story, the battle is known to have taken place long ago, but how is it actually BASED on the battle? You're telling me there were ogres with crab claws, and massive giants with sword 3 meters tall? They just stole the scenario, and completely ignored all historical facts. And the characters? Great? That's going a little too far, no? I thought the acting was horrible, and the dialogues made me laugh out loud many times throughout the movie. The movie was far from great, it was entertaining, but overall it was complete crap, and you really can't compare it to No Country for Old Men.
I hope Dragon Age get's the game of the year, one of the best RPG's I've played in a long time. Spent countless of hours playing, and I'd be very upset if a game like MW:2 comes along and steals the prize, which is very possible.

In any case, I think Uncharted 2 has the best shot followed closely by Batman AA. Both were stellar in story and gameplay. Both really inovated their respective generes. Uncharted 2 in particular plays more like a movie than a game. The environment is constantly changing while playing that it make the actual gameplay feel more scripted and less repetative. Uncharted is far from a mindless shooter and really you'd only know that after playing it.

I think it was Zero Punctation who wants said that's a terrible argument: Why do we even want games to be like movies? It's like a movie where they are showing slides of text for 2 hours and then say "this movie really is just like a book!"
I'd vote for Batman AA, best stealth game since Splinter Cell. DA will never make GOTY, too much aimed for the hardcore RPG crowd. - I wouldn't want it any other way. Can't believe Deus Ex made GOTY once..wouldn't happen today.. ah wait, that was in a more civilised age.
Btw. I can't get over the fact that when I'm playing Uncharted 2 I keep hearing Alistair and Morrigan. (or vica versa)

don't know about Modern Warfare since that I don't care for games like that.
I see your point though it is a shame indeed.
then again Game of the Year... is a commercial thing and in the future people might look back on Dragon Age as a Cult game

so is DA:O
Get over it, you don't have to "hate" one game just because you think the other one is better.

No imagination at all required for those, just copy the real life thing every year and make small tweaks for each new release with prettier graphics.

IMHO, DA has good possibilities because in some way innovates the single player RPG. Also Uncharted 2 that is technically awesome. COD: MW2 is COD5, fivee, nothing new respecting the other cods, as Sims 2 is nothing new.

Uncharted 2 might have a shot, but being on only one platform limits its appeal somewhat. It's also far more linear than DA:O. Batman may also have a shot, but also suffers from that a bit. DA:O has far more length, depth, variety and replay value than both of them. Still... that never stopped Half-Life 2 from becoming an instant classic, and a well deserved one. Unless Assassin's Creed 2 is an entirely different game from the first, I can't see it getting the title. I honestly don't even understand the hype surrounding this one considering how much of a massive dud the original was, IMO.
I get the feeling Modern Warfare 2 will take more awards just because of what it is. Gaming these days has become a bit of a farce where awards are concerned, alas like many awards. At the very least DA:O should make a fairly clean sweep of the Best RPG awards, but it deserves the overall top spot more than CoD42 does I feel.
