I've been trying to work on Isabela's tactics since she seems to prefer to lay on the ground dead, rather than be useful in the party. So, I've worked on her tactics a bit. Now I will mention that, I don't normally play RPGs. I think the last RPG I played was KOTOR. So if my tactics seems lame or not up to par, than forgive me. They have seemed to work for me thus far, but I'm more than open to any suggestions to perfect them.

1. Self: health < 25% use health potion
2. self: mana stamina < 10% Use lyrium potion
3. self: any activate Savvy
4. self: any lacerate
5. Enemy: attacking Anders Use current condition for next tactic (Anders is my healer)
6. Enemy: attacking hawke Across the bow
7.Enemy: Clustered with at least 2 enemies All hands on deck
8.Enemy: highest health Use current condition for next tactic
9.Enemy: target is Elite Backstab
10.Self: surrounded by at least two enemies Twin Fangs
11.Enemy: highest health Confusion
12.enemy: Clustered with at least two enemies misasmic flask
13.Anders: Health<25% Back to Back
14.Enemy target of merril Attack (Merril is crowd control/ damage dealer)

I'm level 15 and play on nightmare mode most of the time as a 2h warrior.  It's kind of frustrating using Isabela as a companion. It's hard enough to keep her useful while also staying out of my melee range. I tried giving her the better survival abilities, attributes, and tactics. Still, she always seems to be the first one to die. I'd also like to know what the best tactics are for her.

She needs liberal use of stealth and de-aggro, even though her skill tree is conter-intuitive to that.

She is great for 1on1 bosses, but by the time you either:

A: clear out the mobs to get to the boss

or B: attack the boss immediately with all 4 chars best spells etc:

she almost becomes redundant, very specific skill set to DPS bosses, but does not do well in mobs, which is a main combat feature of the game......

if you friend her, try your best not to take her out of the party, the characters with stat boosts for hawk that are friends are bugged and will destroy your attack speed or damage resistance (depending on which character you are taking in and out)

I use warriors to soak up aggro, cast spells with Hawke to soften mobs up. And then use Isabela to finish them off one by one. Seems to work for me.
