classes over-balanced?

I finished my first playthrough and missed the quest to recruit Fenris.  This created a problem as I like to keep my companions happy by switching teams to be appropriate to the situation.  As such, I found myself with no viable warrior for many of the quests, because lets face it, Aveline is a pain when it comes to making hard choices.  My strategy quickly became to use mage-hawke to literally stun/freeze all of the enemies within moments of the fight starting, and then Merrill, Varic, and Isabela would DPS them all to dust before they could move.

This is a little bit concerning since this worked for every minor fight and many of the boss fights.  I'm currently testing this theory by running a party of mage-hawke, Merrill, Anders, and Varic.  Thus far, I open each fight with a rain of arrows/tempest/firestorm to lay waste to the entire field, while dropping a cone of cold/crushing prison to hold the strongest enemy in the midst of it all.  So far its even easier than the previous game.  Basically, did the class-balancing make it unnecessary to diversify your party?  In another playthough I'm working on, I'm often having no trouble with 2 warriors and 2 rogues.

Please note, I'm not just trying to troll, I'm truly curious what others think about this.

What difficulty are you playing on?

I have to say that it's not a problem if what you are saying is correct to be honest. It's nice to see different combinations working out then tank/support/dps/dps combos.
Full rogue teams for trickery and combat movement/avoidance
Full warrior teams for pure powering through etc...

I don't think I would get far without at least some diversity though, playing on nightmare and hard

I did 99% of the playthrough on hard, and had to drop the difficulty because of that stupid Isabela glitch suddenly erasing any amount of DPS Hawke could do. As for the 2nd mentioned playthough, I'm still on hard (and avoiding Isabela like the plague). Don't get me wrong, I like being able to do weird and odd tactics, but it feels a little wrong that all three classes now have AOE, control, and DPS, without even needing to specialize in one of these.

As to the concept of full warrior teams, fire up DA:O sometime and make a team of 4 reavers. It becomes hilarious since aura of pain only affects enemies.

What bug is it you are talking about? I am playing with Isabela from time to time.. (no pun intended)

If you can get through hard with wierd combos, maybe you can try a more classical one and play on nightmare, if that suits you better. It is a lot harder to do AoE because of the friendly fire.

I can't try your 4 reaver thing, I don't play DA:O. Tried a bunch of times to get into it, just couldn't. Loving DA2 so far though.

Gotcha. As to the Isabela bug, if her friendship hits 100% it may start permanenty killing your stats. It seems to not check the activation of her friendship boost, but does check the deactivation, thus causing repeated permanent attribute leaching. There's a thread on it in one of the other spoiler forums (can't remmy which one). Apparently the same thing happens with Sebastian.
