IMO, DA2 was designed to be a movie, with a predetermined storyline that really doesn't diverge much at all despite the "choices" Hawke is presented with.
In way, it reminds me of ME2, which also had much of its RPG elements stripped compared to ME. I don't like the way Bioware is going with its games, but as long as they sell they have no reason to change.
To be truthful, I have a fairly strict no-preorder rule when it comes to video games. No one really lines up to pre-pay me for work I havent done yet, so i dont feel the need to do it for others. You work, then you get paid. But, I have such a special place in my heart for Bioware, the true pioneers of deep storytelling and immersive roleplaying, so for them -and only them- I preorder every game as early as possible to give them my full support.
ME2 was not entirely a let down, I really liked it, but I felt the ending was rather poor and the game all too short. But now after playing DA2 I'm afraid they've been taken off my pre-order exception list. Its not a bad game by any means, and I will leave my review of it for your perusal in the review forum, but suffice it to say that it was in no way a worthy successor to DAO. I will now wait for detailed reviews of Bioware games before making my purchase, and then only after release. Its a shame, Ive always considered Bioware the light in the darkness of RPG gaming. I will miss who they used to be.
