I cannot believe that with the DOOM of the known world looming over Ferelden that these guys have to go out and pull weeds and scrounge tombs for pennies to fund their efforts to stay their version of Armageddon. I mean really, at least one or two wealthy nobles would throw down some hard cash to help these guys. It wouldn't be hard to imagine the Chantry making a sizeable donation to stop a flood of Demons into the world either or a constant flow of peasants coming into camp donating chickens, pigs, pies, bread, wine, mead etc. to support the cause . To me there seems to be a great imbalance in the cash flow here. It seems like the merchants are for the most part scalping these dudes at their own peril, what cretins! If they had any sense at all they'd be offering stuff at big discounts or just donating whatever is needed. Even those idiots in the camp say "discount" but after shopping around it looks like at least a 5% markup or worse, and thats after the guys already saved their mini butts once already. I absolutely could not believe that the Demon in Asundered only offered 25 soverign as a reward, Demons are loaded that was an insult, I immediately reloaded and
re butchered his a....!
This is a totally awesome game, but the scrounging for squat just voids the reality of the situation. So If there is at least one modder who sides with me on this please make a mod and drop say about 5000 gold in a chest or sack in the camp to correct this terrible inequity.
I've tried doing it myself but I just keep crashing the game. You know that demon should have dropped a grand or two at the least, unbelieveable.

This problem has existed since diablo. How can NPC's charge a fortune for wares that are going to be stolen by demons/darkspawn/orks/enemy-of-choice? Well, its simple. Game mechanics. If you really were getting a king's ransom worth of gold, it would be like NWN 2... so much gold that you're just selling items to make room in inventory.

Though the potion catch-22 is really annoying. Pay a fortune for potions and give the crafting ingredients to elves, or save the money and shaft the elves?

Of course, it could be done. You could have a noble donate a huge amount of gold and standard equipment. The problem then becomes developers having to focus on content where 'I'll give you three silvers' is something an NPC says and the majority of bodies are not lootable because they just have crap.

It takes a different type of game design, and not a type of game design BioWare does or appears interested in doing.

I've said for years that I'd love an RPG where loot is mostly meaningless. Your armor and weapons increase via various decisions you make in the plot, but let's be honest, World of Warcraft and Diablo show that many (most) games are loot *****. Heck, I'm a loot **** myself. You should see me running after purples in Tourchwood.

So the answer is: Because BioWare is lazy. And by lazy, I mean they refuse to create an RPG that caters to my personal desires.

Note that you can't really prove to anyone you are a Grey Warden, so it's not unreasonable that they don't belive you.

The job boards is what I find strange. If the game plot is such that you are waiting for something/someone or have a lot of time, thebn it makes sense to take on odd job to earn some $ and pass the time. BUT, you're in a time race here...so it really doesn't make much sense.

To be honest, i tend to think the loot system is a little borked. It's simplified from the Baldurs Gate system, but not simplified enough to make the reduced complexity worthwhile. Surely there's basically no reason to have a item/weight requirement at all, and things like gifts, for example, surely shouldn't count towards the number of items you're carrying (just like plot items).

At the very least, give us (officially) a storage chest in camp, and allow us to camp in Orzammar.

There's no point in the jobs board at all - I routinely hoovered up every sidequest I found.

Hmmmm, I don't really think you need to "prove" you're a grey warden since from the aftermath at Ostagar Logain has circulated "Wanted" posters for you and Alistair all over Ferelden.

The console cheat sort of misses the point about correcting the unbalancing I perceive but it would directly quench the thirst. Anyway I thought that was blocked out after the game launch how do you get around that?
