I'm new to modding (so please try to retain lafter) but when I try to follow the directions and extract this to "DocumentsBiowareDragon Age 2" an alert comes up informing me that I need to merge or replace the existing "packages" folder.  The packages folder is pretty damn important so messing with it is obviously not going to be done unless I'm 100% sure this isn't going to screw it up.  So am I supposed to allow the merging or do something different?

Also, there is NO "patch" file in the given directory "DocumentsBiowareDragon Age 2packagescorepatch".  Is this something that should have come with it, or do I simply just create a new (and obviously initially empty) folder and name it patch and then put the extracted file into there?

Can anyone please grant some clarity to this poor poor noobie; it will be much appreciated.

You do have to create a new folder the same way when other mods mention an override folder you need to make that folder too and just put the stuff in them.

If you find that you are getting searches that should return results but do not, check to make sure the cap lock is off. Apparently, item names are case sensitive.

Thanks for the info, but I actually just took the erf file and put it in the override and it worked.  Oh, and FYI the override was already there (MyDocuments\\Bioware\\DragonAge2\\Packages\\Core) not sure if it's because I got the game just last week...

On another note, FOR ALL THOSE USING WINDOWS 7: If you were like me and followed the same instructions you find pretty much everywhere on the net, when you edit the key to make devconsole "appear" (OpenConsole_0 if I remember correctly), the tilde ( ` ) key won't work.  I used F12 and have it working.  At the same time, I also made the OpenConsole_1 to be tilde but not sure if that really contributed towards it working.

1) It should be infinite, once you close the box, you have to activate the console again and type in the proper command.  It would be nice if someone could make it so you would type something like vaddinX where it would make X number of each item appear in the box.  Unfortunately, I'm pretty new to modding so manipulating something like that is WAYYYYY out of my league....for now... =)

2) If you downloaded (In my case, Sonnies Champ Armor set) or some mod that affects the champions armor and/or other weapons/armors in the game; chances are they all have been set to level up with the character (Should be listed in item's attributes).  I believe if you use vaddi and type "champion", there should be the regular set and the modded (level-up with character) sets (Need to double check this).  If you notice, the attributes/armor/damage for the items increase as you level up.

On the part about the armors not leveling up with you:  the only reason why they should have stopped leveling up with you is if 1) the mod is incomplete and only progresses the items to a certain level.   Or 2) you leveled up to 13 all at once (meaning, for example,  you said something like addxp 100000 in devconsole) in which case you leveled up more than one level at once.  Most of the mods I know can't handle that situation and the armors will only treat it as leveling up once.  So if you decided to jump to level 50 from level 1, all the items modded to level up will you will be stuck on level 2.

For the part about you not realizing that you can change item stats:  oh it's very possible, in fact there should be a forum on here that describes all about the process of doing it; which includes step-by-step directions on what files/programs/mods to download, how to use them, etc.

Incorrect on both 1 and 2. if you are using my evolving items, they will level with you till you hit the cap (50) if you are talking about champion armor, it's quite possible you are looking at the fake version or a copy of the original armor before you innstalled the modded armor.

I believe that there has been a misunderstanding.  I never implied that yours (which I use, and is AWSOME!) is faulty, I didn't know which one he was using and just said it was POSSIBLE that the mod he was using was incomplete.  I also know for a fact that there are readme files for SOME mods out there that state that if you level up more that one level at a time (like you say "runscript addxp 10000000000000000000000000" in devconsole).  In that example, you will JUMP multiple levels at once.  The mods with the specific readme's that I mentioned state that in a case like this, though you leveled up, say 6 levels, the modded level-up items will only level up one level PROBABLY because you're not supposed to be able to level up more than one level at once.

On the second part, I may have been mistaken, but on the LOCATION of the walkthrough.  I know for a fact there are pdf's that explain what you must download and use to manipulate the items in the game since I have viewed them.  If it is not on this site,  then it will be definitely be on Dragon Age Nexus.

I have done extensive research to understand as well as possible how the evolution system works. If an item has the evolving attribute, there is no limit of leveling 1 level at a time. The stats are all calculated by a set of algorithms that uses the characters current level in their calculations. It does not matter if you level 1 level or 30 levels in one jump or at what level you obtain the item (which I have confirmed in the game on countless occasions).
Anyone stating that leveling more than one level at a time will result in the item only gaining one level is incorrect. Items only use levels as stat determiners if they are NOT using the evolving system.

When i type in console ' runscript vaddin champion ' it says: There were no items to be had with filter 'champion'. It's the same with every name i type :/
anyone know the problem?

Ah it appears that if i type less letters , like 'cha' i do get all the results ;o (btw dont click on take all, i did it and suddenly the cutscene of act1 to act2 appeared o.0)

Ah, I see.  Well since I never used those mods I stated, I'll take your word on that.  Thanks for the clarity.  Oh, and on an unrelated note; kudos on your profile pic.  Also, I might as well ask here as well, does anyone know if someone has been able to develop a mod that makes companions be able to finally wear armor (any armor).

Does Vaddi work with a predefined list of items, or does it scan the items the game loads (or some other dynamic way)?
I'm asking cause it doesn't recognize Elys' plugin items. Using "vaddi elys" or "vaddin elys" both result in zero hits. Is that normal? Does it have something to do with Elys' thingie being a plugin?
It also doesn't recognize the Black Emporium stuff (tbe100im_etc).

Vaddi uses a 2 tier list system to know of items. If an item does not appear in Vaddi's lists, it doesn't know its in the game. Though you can, using Vaddi to drop your own items in the game is ill advised for any public releases since it would result in mods stomping on each other.

Wanting to include non-vanilla items in that list would require to rewrite the Vaddi script file, right?
Any way to do that without extensive programming knowledge?

I also noticed that if you download it to your patch folder ( programfiles(x86)\\Dragon Age 2\\packages\\core\\patch ) it seems to work for mods like shadowhawks and adonnay's where they actually added completely new items into the game, yet still works just like it would as well if you downloaded to override file. I for one am trying to do the same type of mod but can't find a tutorial on how to do so for the life of me.

Any chance to update this with the new item pack stuff, as well as the Black Emporium items?

BE stuff is already in Vaddi (unless they added more stuff to it from the new packs). Vaddi could be updated to include the new items but it would need someone to get all the ref names for all the new items from a save game, and that's not me. I am not going to spent another penny on DA2 until BW gives us a toolset update.

I can't get it to work with patch 1.02 ..Have it assigned to my F12 key but when I press it, it won't allow me to use any keys, until I hit the Return/Enter key again.

Sounds like its working to me. You need to type in the command after opening the console. You won't see anythingas you type, just make sure you type the command correctly and hit enter.

Great mod Sunnie! i know you did an evolving regalia / resolute / weslet shield pack, but is there any possibilty for you to make a evolving Enchanted Superior issue templar sword - mace - heavy armor - gloves - boots - defender? I have no idea if it s a lot of work or if its really simple so if you can thanks, if not, well thanks for the previous packs and mods!!!
