Paid and downloaded Dragon Age Ultimate Edition from the EA store figuring it would work without issues...

Boy was I wrong...

Essentially the game did work just fine (version 1.0). The only issue I had at the time was that my DLC was not authorized. Dragon age Origins and the Awakening were installed and could be accessed. All other DLC content couldn't. I did see however that some DLC required a newer game version (up to 1.04), so I figured that I needed to update the game first before being able to access the content.

Patch updated successfully, new log in screen. And bang:

"Error: There's a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game". Hello... That would be downloading the 30 GB again. That will take... another 2 days. (yeah remote area here).

Screw the 1.04 patch, screw the DLC then. I don't want it. The main story and awakenings are fine (I like Bioware games because of their main story line). I paid for the rest, but I'm willing to settle with not receiving it. Is there any way to revert back to the original version without having to download the 30 GB again?

I bought the Ultimate Edition online as well but it worked at first. I had issues getting the DLC to authorize and not of the DLC was working. Like the Blood Dragon Armor. Anyway I decided to start over two days ago and deleted the game. Now when I download it I get the error above. So if the 1.04 patch is to blame then how do we remove it?

Since you seem to be having multimple issues with your installtion, I would suggest uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling the game.  Best advice based on the limited info you've provided.

I have the same problem.

The mages isle in ultimate edition was HORRIBLY bugged. Everything except the character's circles (the things on the ground for you to select them) was displayed as a featureless blackness. Not even shadows. Adjusting gamma changed nothing, it was just black. The map displayed no features either. Characters were not selectable, nor could they move, except by using wsad, and that only moved the main character. Apparently no walls existed in this formless void, because you could run indefinitely in any given direction.

So I patched, because what the heck, it might help.

Now the game doesn't work at all. When I try to start, it asks me to log in to authorize, and then once I do so it pops up a new screen telling me that there's been an error and I should reinstall.

And guess what! The uninstall button doesn't work.

I don't even know what I should do at this point. I don't even know how to reinstall given the bugged uninstall button.

It is very frustrating.

Have you tried uninstalling from the Windows control panel?

EDIT:  If you do get it uninstalled, I suggest your reboot before reinstalling the program.  That should clear out any registry keys.

I uninstalled from the control panel. To reinstall, I have to download part of the game again. The download manager is presently running. I will reboot before I actually install.

Reinstallation will probably be sometime tomorrow. I have 30% to go.

Yeah, now the downloader doesn't work. I wondered if there was a problem when, after uninstalling, the downloader started in at 70% complete. Its presently getting to 95%, then downloading slightly more, then hanging on "finalizing." When I close the downloader it tells me that the cache directory needs changed. I don't even know what that means.

I just tried clearing the download. It says it did, but then it started up at 67% complete again. I'm going to let it run, but I'm not optimistic.

"The game installer cache directory is invalid. Please select a different directory."

I don't even know what that means.

I uninstalled the download manager, then reinstalled it. I'm still starting the download at about the 70% mark. We'll see whether it ends up hanging at the finalizing stage.

I'm going to create a separate thread to describe my issue in full.

TL;DR: I'd much rather be playing this game than whining on the forums, but - funny story - I CAN'T. Not for another 26 GB at 180KB/s + whatever old/new problems crop up.

So, a question: where exactly in the EULA or other contracts does it say that we're paying $30 for a crash course in how to futilely try to fix a shoddy product without access to the source code? Contrary to the wettest of corporate dreams, express warranties of merchantability can't be disclaimed everywhere.

My DLC errors led me to the forums; I tried every applicable solution. I finally reinstalled the DLC that was misbehaving. That led me to this generic "sorry, reinstall" error. Now I'm redownloading 27 GB on a crappy DSL connection.

I'd like to know if my game is ever going to work properly, and I'm going to be rather bemused if the answer I get is expressed in terms of casino odds; it's bad enough that I needed to go probing around in forums and .xml files and register on 2 different sites and deal with downed servers all in order to have stuff still not work. And the fact that the bare-bones paid-for-more core of it *did* work for a time is a clear indication that my hardware/OS is not to blame. I feel like an inbred landlubber over here. Next time I see an EA/Bioware game that piques my interest, I'm setting sail on the high seas, if you catch my drift.

Is there any word that *somebody* is working on a patch for the PC ultimate edition so that all of these errors will be resolved? Now that this game's SEQUEL is out, can we maybe finally lay off the rabid DRM/online registration/DLC authorization/must-ingest-RFID-tag-to-play stance that is undoubtedly at the root of this mess? Is that a possibility?

With all of these network-centric problems, you have to wonder how that upcoming MMO is going to (probably not) function. Sigh.

Bioware games tell some great stories, but I've never bought a book that gives me a paper cut every chapter, and has sections written in disappearing ink, and has spawned entire book groups dedicated not to the actual book but instead to DIY book repairs, and requires me to call Big Brother and tell him my SS# every time I want to resume reading.

AFK going to pitch billion dollar idea to Random House.

Same thing happened to me. I don't know why I patched the game, but now it won't work at all. I've also got the "Error: There's a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game" message. I guess I'll uninstall and reinstall. SIGH. Super frustrating.
