Shepharding Wolves

I'm trying to be savvy with my rogue and avoid trouble or conflicts unless the coin is worth it. My plan, all along was to NOT do the shepharding wolves quest where you escort teh qunari out of the city. I left it alone after meeting the woman and not following her to her base but Varric;s brother still tells me to "finish up" my business before leaving for the deep roads... has anyone successfully NOT done this quest before Deep Roads or is it mandatory?
Maybe I should never have helped her in that battle to begin with.... *sighs*

I dont know if you can avoid this quest and still progress? Im not avoiding it, because in my 1st go at the quest, my controller ran out of batteries right at the end when you start talkin to the qunari mage. I had to plug in a wired controller and it seemed to make the conversation choice for me, the mage killing himself. My save was too far back, so just went with it.
Im really eager to find out what happens if I choose the I cant let you do this option.
As for progressing, I am sure some1 wil give you a definate answer shortly..

*goes to check now*
Ok, yeah... it is listed under Main Quests. I guess that implies I have to do it. Which means I have to be a fool and help her trick me into doing something stupid.

If the prevailing "Illusion of Choice" paradigm holds true (which it seems to throughout), then I have your answer!
The choie you speak of would end exactly as would all other possible choices with the possible exception of hawke saying something either angrily, sarcastically or sincerely.....in a very appealing voice......with a lingering shot of those to-die-for cartoon eyes.
amirite?
Tell me I'm right.
