It's beyond me how they managed to screw this up. It worked perfectly in Awakenings.  I realize it's not the same game, but it should be fairly similar in execution.

Copy and paste, yo.

They did that already with the environments.

LOL...I wish it were that easy. Still stuns me how little people understand the troubles of coding. Your "copy and paste" solution could lead to a possible recoding of the entire game. Nothing is simple as that in coding.

keeping trac about changes of your character is pretty simple. I cannot understand why a simple rollback is an issue. It is realy realy simple compared to other mechanics. of course you must save transaction for all changes (potions, bonus, whatever)... but still, it is very simple.

Does the negative passive bug only affect the passive abilities the bug gives you? Or does it also affect the passive abilities you applied yourself ?

Hi, so the maker's sigh bug only affects Hawke? This means I can safely use it to respec other characters?

Yep.

Also, I should have stated this earlier... this trick won't FIX the bug, unfortunately (for that you need a savegame editor), but it will let you sidestep it in the future.

So does that mean using the trick won't get rid of the extra ability points

I had extra spec points not talents and nerfed stats so do not use any more.

Can someone clarify a fewe points for me? It would be greatly appreciated.

If I am playing now, in Act 1, on a mage, and I decide to reset, following everything the OP said, without ever having reset Hawke before, will the glitch come up in later acts?

Thanks!

If you follow the steps the OP said and don't have a problem then the glitch probably won't come up later. It's hard to say for sure but my mage has progressed into act 2 without a problem yet. You'll either have to wait until bioware fixes it or just risk it.

One way to get rid of the extra points is to follow the fix advice (store all consumables, and use maker's sigh potion), but, instead of assigning any attributes, save and exit the game. Then use the savegame editor in the gff4editor package to edit the points. Any available talent and attribute points are shown as non-zero values, but if you assign all of those points first they'll show as zero.

Of course, you'll have to decide how many attribute points you're supposed to have, but that's not too hard if you remember how many tomes you used, plus your level.

So far, I haven't seen any glitches after doing this, but I haven't played much since "fixing" my problem.

Note: This can also be used to fix extra spec points.

Odd thread to necro. Yes these bugs have been squished. We're on the 1.03 patch though.
