If there is anything that Dragon Age 2 does better than Origins it's the humor. Way more comedy in DA2.

You didn't have Oghren in your team at all?

Oghren's funny - but he doesn't hold a candle to Varric. Varric always has something new to say and it usually is witty.

Averline quest: The Long Road

I laughed even when there were no conversation for a minute.

Ah yes The Long Road. That was the point when I realized that someone at Bioware was watching Burn Notice and my snarky Hawke had become a pale English Michael Westen.

Definitely the funniest part of the game for me.

Dragon Age II is much funnier than Origins. I only figured out that Allistair was supposed to be funny after I read about that on the forum.

Taking isabella along for that quest is worth a few chuckles

The laughs should have come from Andre's but then the Warden's took his cat away and he lost his sense of humour... such a loss.. and really, his cat? thats just cruel.

On a serious note, its not that the humor is gone, its just different... and sometimes missed when the group is chattering and combat engages.

Several moments in the game have led me to conclude that the humor in DA2, from what I've seen so far, is just as good or even better than it was in Origins.

My wife has certainly been laughing a lot while watching me play.

And she thinks Merril is really cute.

Thanks for the party banter tips guys - very helpful and they are warming me to the game more - I wouldn't usually include 2 rogues in a party of 4 - even though I still maintain that the Hawke 'funny' remarks are mostly just embarrassingly lame - and I am missing initiating fun responses.

I'm also quite disturbed about how keen this game is to push my male Hawke and Anders together.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the "comedy mask" options either. But in Origins I found most of the humor came from the other characters, not The Warden, so it's not much different here IMO.

Aveline and Merril have some hysterical banter together, I literally laughed out loud a few times.

We all had a good laugh playing DA:O didn't we? If we didn't laugh along with Alistair we could at least cackle as we let the fool talk himself into being carried off in chains. And Shale, Zevran...

All we haters most likey would have been quietened somewhat if only DA2 had a little charm, a little variety - a little humour.

Apart from banging EA/Bioware over the head with a large frying pan again, the point of this post is to ask if anyone can tell me who injected the humour into Origins and where have they gone?

Is this thread a joke? DA2 has the best writing and characters yet of any BW games IMO...

There were some quotes from this game I still laugh about.

Yes, I thought the sense of fun was entirely missing. It only appeared briefly in the conversation with King Alistair. There was humor in the game, but it was as dour as everything else.

Yes, because Merril wasn't the least bit amusing.

We all know you want DA:O 2, so the fact only Alistair's cameo amused you in the whole game seems ridiculous and a lie.

The humor is EVERYWHERE in this game. I mean it's filled to the brim without it being a comedy game.

I liek Big Boats, I cannot lie.

Merrill?

I mean, everything that comes out of her mouth is essentially funnier than anything Alistair ever says.

Anything with Varric.
Anything with Isabela.
Banter with both of them is just too awesome for words.
DA2 had much better humor than DAO

I quite agree - the problem with Merrill is that she's based on a real Welsh woman and while much appreciated is totally out of place and breaks immersion.

I hadn't considered it was his lack of cat that was responsible: nothing else would explain how he's transformed from one of the most fun, irreverant and amusing characters into a miserable, po-faced, whiny, irritating, smeg-headed, tedious, boring, unpleasant and total and utter git.

All the Dalish have Welsh/Irish accents. Just like all humans have English accents. I don't see how it breaks immersion. Their 'american' accents in Origins felt more out of place to me.

Just my opinion.

Here's some humor...

Fenris talking about Varric's lack of a beard. "I thought it might have fallen onto your chest."

Epic! That rates right up there with Oghren's "Well shave my back and call me an elf!"

Yeah, well it didn't for my Anglo-Saxon and Celtic ancestors and it doesn't for me.

It's just that Merrill is too real - she's obviously based on a real person - no-one who didn't know these Welsh mannerisms could have written her - the other Irish/Welsh characters are just accents.
