DAO had a more dry, dark sense of humor. At times, my mage's party with Shale, Alistair and Morrigan was comedy gold.
DA2 does pretty much lack anything actually, really funny. The humor is more in the vein of Oghren, with the purility toned back.

Yeah, if you haven't laughed your ass off (in a good way) during Dragon Age II, then you haven't been playing Dragon Age II.

Well, that's just not true. But humor is subjective. I agree with the above poster that the humor had more in common with the Oghren humor than the Alistair humor. I found it less clever and more based on overt inuendo and pop culture references than dry wit.

Yeah Varric's companion quest in Act 2, where you just play as him and there were like 100000000 enemies.

I was like OH **** at first, then I realized it was just a gag and found myself laughing.

Most of Merrill's conversations had me cracking up a bit.

Isabela in the Fade. "I like big boats. I cannot lie." etc etc.

DA2 had a lot of funny bits in my opinion, moreso than Origins even though both games have their charm.

Merrill?

I mean, everything that comes out of her mouth is essentially funnier stupider than anything Alistair ever says.

Fixed your typo. No need to thank me.

Repeating your post doesn't make it work better. Hawke had some good lines, yes, but so did the warden. No difference there.

Warden and companions made some pop culture references him/herself, but I guess those can be glossed over since it's DA:O and not DA2.

I was laughing way more during DA2 than in DAO. Isabela, Merrill, and Varric especially were just hilarious. Besides banter, though, there were also just situations that had me in stitches. As someone mentioned, Aveline's quest "The Long Road" is a good example, especially the Hanged Man scene. The non-verbal communication there was just top-notch, and was a great example of how well the animations were done.

DA:O wasn't really funny. Some Alistair lines were genuinely funny but then a lot of it was forced nerdy rambling that presumably appeals to single fat girls in their 40s or whoever his character was aimed at. Oghren's stuff was horrible, particularly in Awakening, and while Isabela sometimes comes out with somewhat facepalm-inducing lines in a similar vein, they're nowhere near on the level of Oghren who, quite fittingly I guess, sounded like a very drunk man who's the only one in the room that thinks he's funny. I was too put off by Morrigan's permanently fixed tone of voice, no matter what she says, and really awkwardly forced faux-Shakespearean dialect to find anything she said funny. I could see the potential there, the stuff between her and Alistair, but the delivery was way off.

Finished the game now and the party banter was not as involving as DA:O (build up of relationships was pants), not as charming, not as funny, though there were some good moments - and, no one seems to have pointed out - far less of it.

You can change around your team, step into a different area, rince, repeat and soon run out of conversation.

The dry humourless delivery of Hawke and his lame jokes more than tips the scales against DA2.

I don't know about you OP, but I found Dragon Age 2 to be atleast as funny, if not more so, as DA:O.

My first playthrough was with Sarcastic Hawke, and I found most of the stuff from her, Varric, Merrill and Isabela to be very funny.

Despite issues with DA2, I have to agree that the banter between characters was at least one good thing about the game. I will say that I got more laughs from DAO, but DA2 had some good moments too.

Bethany: That book you were reading this morning, "Hesserian's Spear"— I don't think he had a spear in the legends.
Isabela: He does in this one. Read the description.
Bethany: "Andraste knelt before no man but her Maker, but she hadn't counted on the archon Hesserian."
Bethany: "Can Hesserian penetrate the tight-knit defenses of the warrior-prophetess? Will she be prepared to face the full blast of his... power?"
Bethany: Wait a minute... Isabela! This is a vulgar thing!
Isabela: You want to borrow it?
Bethany: No!
Isabela: You sure? It has pictures!
Bethany: Not listening! I'm not listening!

Merrill: If you could do anything - just anything at all - what would you do?
Bethany: That's easy. Be normal. No magic, just... normal.
Merrill: Really? You wouldn't fly across Thedas or eat a cake the size of Kirkwall? Keep a baby griffon for a pet?
Bethany: Well, now that you say it, the griffon might not be so bad.
Merrill: I'd name mine "Feathers.
