Host Files should be in
C:\\Windows\\System32\\Driver\\Etc
It has no extension and is a text file, you can just open it with Notepad. Though you have to run Notepad as Administrator to actually make changes.

Registered game on the this site and it validated the registration code fine - i even made a typo initially which it spotted and corrected - so i know its valid.
However when launching game i can neither register via my email/password, or via code.
.
Arrrrgggghh
.
Gonna try EA customer support per the back of the booklet, but i'm realistically resigned to keep trying.

I had the exact same problem. Check this^ thread for more information, and a possible solution. It worked for me.
EDIT: Figured I might as well just post the solution here. Heh.
1. Go to EA and register an account if you haven't already.
2. Click on 'Shop at Origin' and download the program. (Origin)
3. Once installed, open it and go to settings.
4. Click on 'validate code' (or something of the like.) and enter your serial number. (The code on the back of the manual.)
5.Once validated, start up DA II from the disk. You should be able to run it.
This solution was originally posted by Gandalfo. So credits go to him.

You don't need to have the downloaded version of the game. I've bought the disc version as well, and it worked.dadewin wrote...

Glad to know it worked for you.Parhelic wrote...
Right, the Origin thing will work. Or at least it did for me. When I was talking with support, eventually they gave me a new product key to use, but it still wouldn't work using the activation tool. I used this new key within Origin however, and now the game works just fine. Thanks xPhealy!
No problemoz mate.

YES!
This worked.
Thanks a lot guys. So much for EA technical support chat service. Can only guess one server isnt talking to another server etc....
Thanks - credit to gandalfo and xPhealy in particular for saving my sanity.

You'll have to provide a lot more info than that before anyone here can even attempt to help you. And depending on exactly what's going on, you'll likely end up needing to go to EA Customer Service anyway, so you might as well start there.
Use the "BioWare Game Support" link at the botttom of the page, then choose "Ask a Game Advisor", then look for the "Live Chat" option.
