I had the exact same problem. Check this^ thread for more information, and a possible solution. It worked for me. :)

EDIT: Figured I might as well just post the solution here. Heh.
1. Go to EA and register an account if you haven't already.
2. Click on 'Shop at Origin' and download the program. (Origin)
3. Once installed, open it and go to settings.
4. Click on 'validate code' (or something of the like.) and enter your serial number. (The code on the back of the manual.)
5.Once validated, start up DA II from the disk. You should be able to run it.

This solution was originally posted by Gandalfo. So credits go to him.

THANKS... BEEN TRYING FOR 2 DAYS. GAME WORKS FINE NOW...

For the love of a motherless goat...
If I would have had a little more patience and discovered this forum earlier, I could have been playing this game for the last 3 months instead of pandering to my [more than] mild anime obsession.

Why in the blue hell does EA help not know about this?! I spend HOURS on the phone with these people...*grumbles under breath and slinks away into the shadows*

*Call from the distance* Thanks for the help!

Maybe someone here who's been successful at getting it to work can help me. I've been having the same problem of not getting past the activation screen. I tried the help suggested in this thread, downloaded origin and activated DA2 on it (now it shows under my games). However when I try to run from disk it is telling me to sign into my EA account, which works as I'm in Origin, and I get the same cannot connect to server message.

I feel like I've tried most things, direct connecting, reinstalling the game and origin, and this topic seemed to help some people so am I doing something different?

Thanks

Does your password have any character other than standard alphanumerics? If so, change it.

Nope, all alphanumeric.
