So this game basically proved that mages need to be controlled. Every mage in that game who escaped becomes a blood mage and turns into a demon. Orsino turns out to be some guy whos been studying bloodmagic since who knows when. As Meredith said, you don't simply conjure that magic out of nowhere. Also mages can't be allowed to govern themselves. Just look at the Tevinter Imperium... pratically all of them and slavers and evil. Oh yeah they also created the darkspawn, archdemons and the blight... good stuff

It also "proves" that templars controlling the situation leads to massive abuse of power.
I'd personally rather have darkspawn running around than templars. They are pretty much a symbol of extreme oppression and injustice. At least darkspawn don't pretend, they just want to kill everyone.
Sadly the game insists on teaching us that all mages are bad as well. I don't see why that must be true, but it really is in the game. I only really remember one "good" mage, and that was Bethany.
