Thanks to the hard work of some other forum members here, basic armor appearance modding is already possible.
However, I haven't seen anyone remove stuff with alpha and my own attempts have failed.
Maybe someone with more experience could tell me what I'm doing wrong.
As I can see, there are 3 texture files per armor (Isabela's outfit is used here as example)
hf_arm_isaa_0d.dds - texture
hf_arm_isaa_0n.dds - normalmap(?)
hf_arm_isaa_0s.dds - ??? (probably defines shininess)
The first one is pretty standard with a clear alpha channel. However, applying alpha in only this file seems to do pretty much nothing.
The second one is beyond me (no clear alpha channel), but in my understanding it shouldn't really matter (bumpy invisible stuff is still invisible).
The third one should be simple too, just alpha the desired area and it stops being shiny, right?
I'm using photoshop with nvidia dds format v8.23. I've tried tinkering with the settings of the latter plugin, but it just seemed to make matters worse (whitened or blackened resulting textures in game). The best results are reached with "DXT5 ARGB 8 bpp interpolated alpha" which worked with many other games so far, too.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Q: How to use alpha in DA2 .dds files?
