Ok there seems to be a lack of a search option here so sorry if this has been posted.
Is there no path that ends up in saving your mothers life?
Also if Gascard is after Quentin for killing his sister how in the HELL does it make sence that he will sometimes fight at Quentins side against you????? i never got that just read it, am i missing something??? or were thay actually working together or something?
All that remains

*spoilers*
Gascard was really an apprentice to Quentin and wants to get all of Quentin's knowledge for himself. You can however talk him into doing the honorable thing and killing the elfing nutjob*

Yeah he was really the apprentice who was angry at his master for not teaching him necromancy. But he promises to teach Gascard if he helps you. But if you bring Varric with you he'll kill Gascard as soon as he betrays you. And as far as I can tell there's no way of saving the mother.

I've been picking diplomacy options all throughout Act II and most of Act I, and I can never convince him to do the right thing.
What does the option say on the dialogue wheel that convinces him?

Pretty much doesn't matter how you play this quest, Leandra is dead anyway. Only if you go to the bloodmage you get to kill both and not just Quentin. They are both bloodmages and evil, so don't bother finding diplomatic options.

I knew Leandra was dead the moment I heard she got white lilies (well, sorta dead considering, but dead nonetheless). but the guide says you can convince gascard to do the right thing. I want him to do the right thing. But no matter how many diplomacy options I pick, he turns traitor. Is it a bug or something?

I chose mostly sarcstic dialogue options and was able to convince him. Each dialogue stance has unique persuasion opportunities.
