nvm, I talked to him during the rest point of the final battle. A little last minute flirting and got the achievement. despite the fact that I'm a mage and we're defending the mages! Ah the satisfaction of proving a point that not all mages are evil.

Honestly, Fenris's companion quests are key. Side with his viewpoints ENTIRELY on them, and don't even take the elf girl as a servant. While you can recoup some points by saying you gave her a job, and his reaction of "Oh....that's... good then." is SUPER cute... you just don't see that it docks you rivalry points for picking that option first and then you negate a few of them. To get max friendship from it, you have to just give her the coin and tell her to go. Also, make sure when Fenris has a choice, you let him make it, like when it comes to Hadriana's death. And don't nag him about how he gave his word or he'll get irked with you. I haven't even done his second companion quest (his sister) and he's already locked into full friendship with me. And I just didn't take him along on any aspect of the Wayward son quest EXCEPT for the slaver part. That's key if you want to balance friendships. Others appreciate you giving Feynriel choice... Fenris doesn't. But he does very much like you killing off the slavers. So doing some companion switching there to maximize friendship profit is the best if you don't want to go anti-mage. In all of my playthroughs, I've sort of stood in the middle until they forced me to pick in the end. I was never 'pro-mage' or 'pro-templar'. I was just 'pro-sense'. But playing that way DOES require you consider companions and know which ones to take when.

Okay I have a Fenris romance question.

After he came to Hawke's mansion and they spent the night together, he does the whole thing where he leaves. Am I to take that as an indication that the romance is "over" at least for the next 3 years until they FINALLY talk about what happened?

I'm confused because he leaves, but then he's still wearing the red wristband and saying nice things when I click on him, etc. There are things that indicate the romance is still "active" but that doesn't make sense three years later when it then appears that it HASN'T been active that whole time.

Anyone make any sense of this?

I'm just really sad that he can't move in with you. I would pick my estate over his any day. Those digs need a serious dusting and I'm not even going to mention all those little bits of demon lying about. Those things carry salmonela you know!

It is also noted that Fenris will stay with you if you have Rivalry maxed as well.

To get Rivalry points, pretty much do the exact opposite.  Use the more aggressive options during his personal quests, help out the mages with him in the party, and when dealing slavers try to 'negotiate' first before killing.  He hates that.

ALSO, Fenris gives friendship points if you help people out regarding family issues... like reconnecting Gamlen with his daughter, for instance.

Fenris hates: slavers, mages (especially blood), negotiating
Fenris likes: anti-mages policies, family (loyalty), killing people, letting him make his own decisions

ok, 2nd play when I've romanced Fenris, but now I'm at the end of act 2 and Merrill is in my house comming onto me. Fenris stayed the night once, if I don't break this poor girl's heart will he leave me permanantly? The odd thing is, I've only flirted with her twice. The rest of the time, i've just been nice to her.

She comes even if you flirts ONCE, kdarnell. And yes, if you sleep with Merrill it will end Fenris's romance.

Agreed. The mansion has the lonely feeling with your mother being gone. Having the dog and everyone there is nice but still not the same. I was rather disappointed you could not ask Fenris to move it, thrilled when you could as Anders. Oh well at least Fenris coming around to you "fully" in Act 3 makes it worthwhile if he stays by your side.

Only thing is I forgot to snatch the book on Shartan in the alienage in Act 2. Hopefully that won't affect my game to much. Am close to 100% friendship with Fenris.

haha, im thiinking yes.

As usual a LI gush thread has to be invaded on by flamers, so no surprise here as usual.  If you don’t like a character, that is fine and you are fully entitled to your opinion/feelings. However here we fans of Fenris getting advice, tips and gushing about a shared romance companion. You don’t like it fine then run along and go start your own vindictive thread and stay out of ours. There are plenty of other people who will be glad to join you in flaming Fenris or anyone else you don’t like.
 
With that being said, thank god is right for auto save. Have already had to exit my game without saving three times to make sure I am not getting rival points with Fenris as I play a mage.  Thank you for giving us a romance thread guide Zeleen! Trying to romance him as mage is comparable to walking on egg shells and sometimes leaving you saying “say what?” but I do enjoy a challenge. I am so getting him again on my third playthrough.
 
Am on Act 3 now and can’t wait to reach the end. )
