nah, it's easy to romance him as a mage. just don't take him in party if you're going to be doing mage friendly quests. totally take him on any mage-killing quests, lol, if you play that way. Truthfully, I had a really hard time finally getting him at max rival, just so I could see the rivalmance cutscenes. And this was on a mage Hawke playthrough.

basically, if you are supportive and understanding of him, you give him his gifts, and you avoid taking him with you when doing mage friendly quests, you're good. Oh, taking him to rescue the young elf girl(the magisters quest which used to be all frackin' messed up) and mercilessly killing the crazy elf pedo nets you some good friendship points from both Fenris and Isabela.

In my first play-through I romanced Fenris on the friendship path while taking him everywhere with me. I just had to always support mages going to the Circle when given the choice. My Hawke was a bit of a hypocrite about that though, since she was one of the few mages she deemed responsible enough to run around wild. I justify it by acknowledging that she grew up with a mage parent who taught her how to control herself and her powers. Plus she wasn't bent on world domination or power crazy like magisters of the Imperium.

All so I can get that party dialogue I've heard about, where Fenris threatens to kill Anders if he breaks Hawke's heart.

Please don't shout at me for posting on an old thread, I'm new to the forums (but not the game). It's good to know I'm not the only one who prefers to romance Fenris..... I can't resist his voice and those sad puppy!
I've played the game over 30 times (sad I know) and all but twice I've romanced him, I only wish he could be in DA3 or at least someone who is very similar with the same voice.
