I am in act 2 now...just did the quests where you go into the Fade to get the boy.

I talk to merril whenever I can, i return to her house whenever, to see if there are new mini quests. She is max friendship with me, and I just bought her a little wooden trinket as a gift.

And yet I never get a chance to flirt with her. PLUS she attacked me in the Fade, apologized for it, and I could've SWORN it'd be a chance for Hawke to pull a move, but he was too much of a ****.
ok, ignore that last part.
When will I even see a flirt option with her?  Does this have anything to do with the fact I haven't recruited isabella yet? (dont plan on it...)

I'm actually about to post this on YouTube myself.. But anyway, did you do her companion quest? Mirror's Imagine?

That is pretty much key.
After you pick the flirtateous options there and go back to your mansion the magic should happen.

There was a flirt in the first conversation you have with her, but that may be for females only?

Anyways, yeah, it takes a while for the real flirts to show up, but they should be soon for you. And it only takes one or two to get her to trigger the romance.

Merill is an odd one. You think she hates you, so you head home to change clothes before heading out to the rose......she beats you home and jumps your bones.

That's there for males too. She's the only one I did all the fliratious options on :P
But as far as I can tell, Mirror's Image is really only what matters. And the small conversations you get after that.

EDIT: With small conversations afterwards I mean the two companion quests "Questioning Beliefs" and "Back from Sundermount". These three quests, as far as I can tell judging by what I recorded, are the only ones that really matter.

EDIT 2: BY THE WAY. It is Merrill. At least get her name right if you're going to romance her!

She will automatically appear at your mansion at some point after repairing the mirror and then it's hump-hump time.

She is relatively easy to romance, just always use the calm tone around her and be understanding and always pick the flirt option.

Indeed, my Hawke flirted with her the first time they interacted in her house. And in Act 1, I heard the Merrill/Aveline banter about her being sweet on Hawke.

This is one of the few banters where Hawke is called 'her.'

I wonder why females get early access.

Well.. I'm pretty sure I had the same thing on my Mage (Male Hawke).
Had a flirt option right when I met her, more or less, and eventually had her say something.. Well I'm not sure what it was again but it was indeed in a banter with Aveline which remarked on her liking Hawke.
