this is my second run threw and i am a tank (sword and shield) and i would like to keep my party intact allt he way threw(excluding personal quest of course) the party is my sister bethany, fenris and isabel.  Is it possible to keep both your sister and fenris to the end or do i have to choose one.

I sided with the mages and my companions all had to decide where they stand. Fenris left my party to join the templars. But sure enough, a little while later I was able to convince him to come back into the fold. Its a pretty touching moment really, the way he turns aside his decade long vendetta to stand with his friends.

In addition to the above, if you have either 100% Friendship or Rivalry he won't leave your party in the first place.

If you sided with mages, Fen only comes back if he's on friendship path, I manage to get him back with somewhere 70% friendship on my first run. If he's rivalry, you have to side with Templars to keep him.

On my first playthrough I was playing a mage supporter and had 100% rivalry with Fenris. I was still able to convince him to help me fight the Templars.

He needs to have high rivalry or freindship then you need to wait for the last conversation between Osrino and Meredith then you can ask him to join you

I was at 100% rivalry, the gutless traitor left for the Templar oppressors.

AND he wouldn't come back. I killed him in 4 seconds.

YOU ARE NOTHING AND I AM THE MAKERS SON!!!! BURN!!

Damn, I should have pissed him off more! I wasn't quite at 100% rivalry, and I was really hoping to change his mind. He ran off with my fancy sword, too! Bastard, grrr!

He never left my mage's side. (100% Friendship on first run.) He just commented on how I liked testing him, encouraged me to kill Anders, me taking him to strange places and the irony of him saving mage's when he hates them. Then again I romanced him too...

He should stay with you at 100% friendship or rivalry (though perhaps your responses might still push him into the templars). If you're on the friendship path but not at 100%, he'll leave but might be persuaded to come back. Anything less than 100% rivalry, though, and he'll have to be killed.

100% Friendship and he never left my group. I didn't have to do any convincing.

I had him at 100% rivalry, and he didn't even blink.

Both he and Aveline made comments about going templar (Av. was about 'law and order') when I said I'd be with the mages. Then when Meridith asked if you were 'sure' they both said they'd stay with me due to the respect that they have for me.

So it's very likely that you have to gain their 'respect' via the quests/questioning beliefs/etc even if you go full rivalry. Which makes sense. You can go full rivalry just by pissing in their cornflakes constantly, but that should have them turn on you.

You can also do it by being 'honourably' opposed to their personal beliefs. This will keep them by your side no matter what. (even when taking a romanced Merrill + Fenris/Anders through all of the blood mage questing of hers and slaughtering her tribe)

I had him at 100% friendship, and he stayed with me through it all. He never even protested against me siding the mages, just mentioned it as somewhat odd during the final conversation.

From what I've heard, if you've got a high friendship score OR rivarly score, AND have done all of his personal quests, he will not even consider joining the templars.Since then, I guess, you've proven yourself to be a solid ally and companion, and possibly even a romantic partner.

I played a mage on 100% rivalry, sided with the mages and he didn't leave the party at all.

I didn't have him on 100%, but he still joined me with mages. That was AFTER his first decission. When we met Meredith again, I could ask him to join me.. TO THE DARKSIDE!

Well obviously I said something to hurt his little Fenrissy feelings. Whatever. All I need are my girls.

Aveline for Tank, Isabella for carving fools into sandwhich spread. Merrill for adorability, and her insane Mage DPS. And my dog. ****munch, self explanatory.

Die Fenris, die with my hate.

With %100 Friendship or %100 rivalry neither Merrill (rival) or Fenris (LI/friend) left my party or had any conversation for persuasion. I finished with mages first then reloaded the save and sided with templars.

One difference is Zevran won't show up if you side with templars.
