I though the big ass statues were kinda funny. What was their point? I mean, of course they intimidated slaves and such, but they must have taken a lot of time, money and manpower. And if you want to intimidate someone, you could use that templar army with their big swords and whatnot.
...And yes, I know it's a fantasy game.

At risk of getting too serious, the statues are from the days of the Imperium, so pre-Templars. I think they're more meant to give teh slaves an atmosphere of despair rather than outright intimidation. the Magisters had blood magic for that after all.
