It's real but staged. When I spotted the quintuplets and quadruplets in the "Loose Ends" mission (Act 1) I made Varric immortal and killed off the rest of my team so I could get a nice screenshot. Here's the full screen. Here's a closeup.

Yeah. Who knew, amIrite? According to DA:O, elves are valued for their beauty. Somewhere in DA II (can't post where, no spoilers allowed) that gets said again. In DA:O it was true. In DA II it was a lie.

Merrill is still beautiful. Zevran still looked like Zevran. Fenris looked badass. Not all of the elves looked anorexic and disgusting like people seem to be saying. In fact, barely any did to me.

But that's what it boils down to about the new elven appearance. Personal opinion. I love the new appearance.

Although if I saw Cammen, I would barf uncontrollably like in that Family Guy episode with the ipetac or whatever it is. He'd look like he got beaten in no matter what.

Zevran looked like Zevran DA:O? Are you kidding me? I only got through his "quest" by blocking out the view, and listening to his voice. Zevran DA II was nothing like Zevran DA:O. Nothing at all. He was hideous in DA II. He was hawt in DA:O

meh it's personal opinion again. I didn't see much of a difference between the two. Which I was glad for because I was afraid of how he would look with the new appearances.

I'm sorry but elves in DA:O just looked like humans with pointy ears and a little less height. Qunari were like that too. pointy ears and very tall. It was a world filled with Spocks (not the best comparison, but more or less the point should be made) If I met a DA:O elf in the street, I would think they were a human until I saw the pointy ears, which even then in DA:O were not all that obvious because most elves had kinda long hair which concealed the ears almost completely. I don't want to be asking myself "Is he a human or an elf"

They were also described as slender in DA:O, yet they were not all that slender. Just shorter with the same physique (sp.?) as a human (yes I know it's a game mechanic that everyone has a body like Adonis or Hercules or any other Hero of legend). Here they match that description. Will some elves look ugly? Definitely, because ugliness is everywhere. But to me Zevran is not "hideous".

Again, I'm glad for the new appearances because it gives each race a unique look and makes them their own race. Dwarves though don't need a unique look. They're just short bearded humans who like caves. That's the very definition of most, if not all fantasy Dwarves
