Good natured ribbing of companies is fine. Outright bashing and swearing is not, as per our forum rules.

You're not being ribbed.  You're being mocked.

Pretty sure he knows. I mean, there could very well be Bioware employees that aren't pleased with the product at all, but for the sake of the company or whatever else reason, one can't go around and just say whatever they think and hope to keep their job (pulling a Charlie Sheen or whatever).

I think that it's pretty good that Bioware actually leaves the criticism on the forums, even the dumb open letters blaming David Gaider for all the trouble in the world. Some other games don't allow that kind of discussion to run on their official forums. So props to them at least for that.

So, basically it's a joke that all Orlesians are pretentiously clothed ****s? It's probably true, but not that funny.

Apparently some people think the french are gay. Really, the orlesians are more like the exaggerated french stereotype than anything else....

Listen to how Leliana descibes Orlais, that's what the joke is. Overly flamboyant, not gay. Oh and for the record Prince is not gay so why people keeping linking that picture to something gay is beyond me.

And as Jim_uk  said - that dude on the picture is (or was) a Pop Star singer dressing like that to just for the sake of show (like Marylin Manson is doing - he isnt some devil killer maniac)

Because it's a stereotype picture about a stereotype opinion. I see where this is going from, but Leliana's description always brought a picture of the decadent royal court of some French king Lous the [insert Roman number]-th to my mind. Complete with elaborate dresses, hairstyles "a la Madame de Pompadour" with mice in them and lavish parties.

But I suppose some people can elaborate that a contemporary picture of Orlais would be like this - dancing ****-mage stripper.

Your mileage may vary, but it's very funny to me. Orlais means flashy, show your stuff, be flashier and more flamboyant than your neighbor. Flamboyance rulez. Being/appearing "gay" is not the issue. Thinking that all homosexual people are flamboyant is stereotyping. I know flamboyant "straight as an arrow" people, and down-to-earth gay people (of both sexes) Complaining about stereotyping a Fantasy setting? Well, whatever floats your boat.

Orlais as portrayed in DA settings:

Leliana and the shoe fashions in Orlais. Or hair filled with live birds.

Blooming Rose and the 'feather boa' conversation.

Isabel's friend and the "it's fancy, just like everything in Orlais."

And that's just an excerpt of the many things "flashy" in Orlais. Orlais is not France. Thedas is not Earth.

Good for you. For me the joke is only good if it needs no explanation, like felicitated Lord Harriman's motivationals.

THe only thin worth remembering about Orlais was Denerim market where the biatch says "be careful with that package you little slùt! It's worth more than you will make in ten years"

I wanted to steal it :(
PS I don't get the pciture either.  Maybe I'm desensitized to the shockvalue of a half-clothed celebrity?

Go ahead. Though I was only commenting that this joke is not very good at doing its job, as not everyone gets it or finds it funny.
